I like the design of this one, not quite the usual Dubai kind of thing. You need a sore thumb or two sometimes.

Cul, I think Wood Bagot screwed up big time with Sir Foster's concept of the facade.

Thanks Imre! Next time could you take a picture of the crane side? It'd be nice to see how that side is progressing.

Could someone perhaps get new shots of the podium? The last update we had on that was the one by 234sale on June 21st:

The shape of the building is nice. I just don't like the big concrete part. Definitely ruins the project.

Culwalla, I'd be interested to hear what you think of the actual facade compared to the renderings.

Wow, what a hulking, brooding monstrosity. I hope Dubai quickly builds around this.

I like it because of the direction its facing (which is unique) and the massiveness of the building itself. It blends in with the existing skyline and is very unique in its appearance.

The concrete part doesnt bother me too much, I actually find it appealing as all the other skyscrapers have only glass exteriors which gets kinda old.

Yes, I agree. The 'sand' coloured panelling on the concrete is very practical from a maintenance point of view. Its far easier to sustain in such a sandy and dusty environment. It also allows greater thermal protection by increasing thermal mass and decreasing glazed areas.

Thats true, however they covered the concrete with tiles, because exposed concrete to 50C could make life a living hell in a building like this (besides it will be very ugly). Because of the tiles the temperature is not as high hence reducing cooling costs and the building could be more energy efficient in some ways.

that's a bloody monster! Also can't decide if I love it or hate it. Just makes such a HUGE impact when compared to other buildings currently going up in Dubai. Think I prefer it (for some unknown reason) to some of the recent additions to the Dubai skyline.

Certainly. One of the best examples of brutalism for 40 years or so! Looking at the renders though, I don't think they meant it

Great pictures, as always, Imre
