I agree, very brutalist! I love how the thick concrete buttresses appear to root it solidly into the ground.

Are there any estimates as to when this building will open?

I can't really decide much whether I love or hate it. I really like the lines and texture of the building, but the color is a bit drab which does help it to blend in with the environment and help with maintenance. I really like the direction that isn't parallel or perpendicular to SZR. I think Foster & Partners did a pretty good job on the project, but it is still a bit hard for me to fall in complete love with it.

This is my favorite building in Dubai right now, wonderful design. Brutal, yes, but in a magnificent way.

Yeah, I'm estimating around April/May 2010. The podium and penthouses have a good bit to go yet. They usually say 6 months from the moment the last crane comes down.

Those are nice Imre, for the first time Dubai looks a bit like real city (from that angle)

If it keeps growing, who knows!

Yes, as far as I'm aware it is. They've already constructed the podium to that effect...so they have to complete it.

Beautiful picture above....albeit a little deceiving!

I think this building is great both architecturally speaking and in functionality with the climate of the area.It amazes me how Foster and Partners find great ways to adapt a building to its surrounding area and still manage to create a great building.
