The Index sure would've looked fresher with similar white cladding like the kind going on Megapolis. I think it would brighten it up. Much closer to the original renders.

Facade details are nice ( as you'd expect from a foster design _ even taken over by project architects or consultants _) but they get lost quickly when you walk away, overshadowed by the size of the building... IMO it whould have needed some "middle scale" paterns to cast a more "human size" aura. To me, the vertical white lines don't do it because they strenghthen the vertical movement induced by the sloped sides.
The closer you get, the smaller you must feel, as nothing in the design counterbalances the impact of the overall size...

Still, being the only one of this kind in Dubai, it fully deserves a place in the skyline and works well in contrast to everything else around it.

It gives me the same feeling than another residential tower, also by Foster+partners i believe, "the Troïka" in Kuala Lumpur ( see skyscrapers thread ), which shares the same problem of poor overall look vs nice detailing and _assumably_ nice living spaces...

I'm still a hardcore fan of Foster who i consider the best business/architecture alchemist in action today ( i just red he is 800 million $ worth, probably the richest architect ever ); he could beat SOM on his own!

I tend to disagree. I don't find much character there at all.

dubai and character doesn't go together, i am sorry but by making the tallest skyscrapers doesn't give the city its character its the people. the arabs might have built the tallest buildings but still are really low minded people and yes dubai does not have any character. dubai as a city had identity crisis and they felt the need of making more and more + taller and taller skyscrapers because dubai wanted to give itself a new identity which it previously didnt have before.

Don't you have some central city-squares to rampage and historic statues to burn?
