Core is at lv73 or 74 now (if there's enough space for two levels under the formworks), and floor plates at lv69 half-way, I think.

could it be that they moved some of the workers from the torch to 23 marina, because the torch slowed down a lot for the last floors (well they don't need to be fast, cladding and everything else is far behind), while 23 marina accelerated with the floorplates.

Related to the toch the adding of cladding is now much more important than the height increasing. They can start with MEP works on a floor when they clad a whole floor and than start with the interiors, which is a lot of work. They have their plan and we have to be patient and follow the progress wherever it will be.

A little uninteresting anecdote on the side. Last night I dreamt I was in Dubai and because of a change in ownership 23 Marina - the way it is now - had to be torn down, and in it's stead they started constructing a boxy 64-floor office building with generic blue glass cladding, similar to 4WTC without the setback. When the demolition crews for 23 Marina arrived there was a large protest gathering and I was one of the protestors, but it was demolished anyway (with a huge wrecking ball on a really tall crane of all things). The dream ended after that. No idea why I'd dream about such a thing...

What a precise dream! Is this 'cause of the mystical number 23?
Some years ago I dreamt another way: a fantastic skyline in a nameless city with never seen scrapers before my eyes (this felt wonderful)...

But in case of 23 Marina: why didn't the "new investor" use the existing tower as an extended core and built the box around? Though that'd still be crazy.
Fortunately, in general towers aren't rebuilt just to fit the recent company logo. And fortunately the real 23 Marina has one direction: up! So the SSC Dubai crew doesn't have to paint bed sheets...

Am I the only one that is a bit freaked out by the flimsy looking connection at the upper right hand corner of Imre's pic? If I remember correctly from the floor plans, these triangular terraces hold quite a lot of weight including the private mini-pools. I'm sure a lot of research and study has gone into this and I'm sure it's going to be just fine, but doesn't it look kindof strange for a connection for a load-bearing terrace? Or, is it just me and should I just crawl back into my cyber-corner and suck my thumb?

Thoughts?

I was thinking about that. And DCE wouldn't be the contractor I'd trust the most for this sort of stuff.

There are screws available which can easily take this load.

What frightens me is the bad quality of the concrete. Look just right above the "57" sign. You can see the rebar because they poured the concrete very badly. The rebar is now open to corrosion. And this is not just any floor, it's a structural floor which holds the entire building together...

So droneriots dreams might come true... only without the wrecking ball!

You are absolutely right! The quality of the concrete looks seriously bad. But if they fix this properly there has to be no problem with it in the future. The steel which is bolted to the concrete can be mounted like this. We don't know the loads on this part. Maybe there will be more steel or other supporting parts there so the load on this part isn't that high.

Imre, if you are in the tallest block again can you make more of the detailled photo's? I like to see how the overall construction quality is in this block/Dubai.

The Torch has exactly the same problems since it's built by the same contractor.

The quality is the concrete works is very bad specially the DCE (The Torch and 23 Marina) , ACC concrete works little bit better (Elite,Princess) but still rubbish.

TAV (Marina101 and Sulafa) is ok , Arabtec (Ocean Heights,Infinity) is good quality.

This is not the tallest block but the best in Dubai Marina, http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showth...=506679&page=3 , DCC seems really good.

Anyway is not always linked with the contractor, depends what the developer ask, if they reduce the costs, the contractor will use lower quality concrete.
