Are those ugly old buildings on the left going to be demolished?

I wonder. Actually, there is another row of ugly buildings on the same side of the SZR but just before reaching the Defense roundabout that are absolutely awful too and that need to be replaced.

However, could someone please be so kind to remind me what's the on hold working site behind those boxy buildings? I remember it has already been discussed in the past, but I can't find where anymore....

Thanks a lot in advance

Those "ugly" buildings are the first ever to be constructed in SZR (that was a simple 1+1 road at the time) in the early '80s. They are/were part of the World Trade Center & Exhibition complex, and used to be managed by Hilton Hotels. They used to be called Hilton Apartments, now simply as Trade Center Apartments.

As for the other buildings mentioned, they aren't really ugly, just regular mid-rises. They are used as accommodation for Emirates Airlines stuff (as many other towers in SZR or elsewhere in town)

Big update of the SZR by me. All the 40 pictures have been taken today and the Al Attar Tower can be seen on some of them

i have heard rumors somewhere they where actually considering. tearing down the World trade centre tower when the Building boom was at its craziest.

Im really glad they dident it was the Tallest Inhabitable building in the middle east for many years.

Now back to topic do anyone have any fresh hi res pictures of the Crown of Al Attar tower. Id love to see that. it looks like it might turn out very good

Just because they may look ugly on the outside, doesnt mean it's the same inside... they could have been recently rennovated.

Yea, i dont think they should just blindly demolish old buildings. They should preserve some of them for the visitors ( and more importantly for the locals ) to understand what the city was like, before 1971 or before the oil boom.

Actually, that is Dubai from the early 80s... and this photo you see, is looking south wards, toward Abu dhabi. Back in the 80s this section of Sheikh Zayed road was considered the city limits of Dubai.. now ofcourse, the city extends even beyond
