He might also be referring to The Tower, the one in front of Al Yaquob, with the pyramid crown. The Tower has always been a fave of mine, she's a beauty.

...
As for the other buildings mentioned, they aren't really ugly, just regular mid-rises.
Al Kawakeb Buildings A, B, C, D & E are not ugly at all. They're just too tiny in comparison to the neighborhood.
But on the opposite side of "defenCe roundabout", Toyota and Sheigh Rashid buildings look like they're from another planet, or at least from Inca Empire, given the neighborhood of Downtown district.
But like I often say, such amount of balconies (...as u can see on Shk.Rashid bldg.) justifies almost all the flaws of it's architecture.

Yes, the tower and the al yaquob tower.. Actually, i wish SSC or Wikipedia would have a useful link of the tallest buildings in all cities, with pictures.... WIthout pictures, it is hard to put the name to the tower in my mind.

Shk. Rashid building ain't that bad, but the Toyota building certanly is. Now it is used by McDonald's to accommodate their staff

As a matter of fact, Toyota bdg. was completely abandoned about 4 to 5 years ago, with most of the balconies doors wide open in the midst of the summer heat. I think it was about to be demolished in the favour of Jumeirah Gardens fantasies.

Wasn't the interchange the reason it got demolished?

PS: Now that you mentioned it, I've been there once when I was a Dubai frashman, back in 2000

No the Wikimapia Link shows where exactly it was. It used to be the coolest place to hang out as a kid in the late 90's/early 00's!

No doubt they changed the roof design. I wonder how it'll turn out?

So far it doesn't really show any resemblence to the render in the first post. Is that outdated? If yes, someone should update that post.

No new renders have ever been released. Maybe there is a billboard infront of the plot?

A few weeks ago I searched around the internet on the developers and constructor sites for example, but no results.
