Rousse (also transliterated as Ruse or Russe; Bulgarian: Русе ) is the fifth largest city in Bulgaria, with a population of 178,000. Rousse is situated in the northern part of the country, on the southern bank of the Danube, opposite the Romanian city of Giurgiu, 320 km from the capital Sofia and 200 km from the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast. It is the most significant Bulgarian river port, serving an important part of the international trade of the country.

Rousse is known for its 19th and 20th century Baroque and Rococo architecture, which attracts many tourists

Yeah, but most of the pics there were dead for some reason. I hope these can be viewed...I had hard time making all those work...I can not make webshots.com's pics show up though. Any suggestions?

If the city gets renovated a little bit and some more money is invested in it, in a couple of years it could become an important touristic center in northern Bulgaria if not for the whole country, plus it feels so go to wonder around the streets in Rousse.

Ruse is a gorgeous city,but some of the buildings need renovation.This year the pedestrian street and the square in front of the municipality building were renovated.

Currently, a lot of renovation and costruction works are underway there. Partly because the city turned into a tourist and shopping destination for many people from Bucurest and Giurgiu after we became EU members..

Practically, Ruse and Giurgiu are becoming a single urbanized zone. Now still there are passport checks, but after 2 years we're entering the Schengen Zone so basically the border will be totally removed.

OK, I'm sorry about that all.bg crap.

I'm going to do a "photo safari" soon, and I'll upload the images to my site and post a link here.

The "friendship" bridge is not so bad and dirty, though they are going to do some renovation works ("artistic lights" and such blabla's). The real problem is the "Bulgaria" boulevard which is also something like Ruse's bypass and carries much of the BG-RO traffic, connecting the bridge and the roads to Varna and to Sofia. It's in a very poor condition at the moment and is undergoing reconstruction. It began in 2006 and is expected to end in 2008 (veery slowly ). Until then, most people coming from Romania will have some...well, not very good first impressions about our country.

This summer begins the construction of 4-lane road (2x2) connecting Ruse and Tarnovo too. According to the news articles, this year part of it (Polsko Kosovo - Borovo, around the notorious Byala region) is going to be finished. They are also going to build a second bridge near Byala, the same place where the bus wreck happened. Hope that they'll do it in time, because indeed, especially after the 01.2007, the traffic in this direction far exceeds the capacity of the road.
