I was just told that suburban stations can't be included.
Bank is used for 'subway' and light-rail, and its also a major terminus... but I'll take it out.

I do NOT understand your criteria...

In Madrid and other stations, you count metro tracks.
In Barcelona, they are not counted.
Why?

The list is not correct!

Glasgow Central has 16 platforms and the city's other main terminus Queen Street has 9. So the Glasgow totals for main teminii is 25. I haven't read through the whole thread though so apologies in advance if some criteria isn't met and this shouldn't be the case.

Good to see this thread still firing! Boards, Glasgow deserves to be added into the city totals with a value of 25, by since I'm waiting to see what happens to two platforms being constructed in Melbourne at the moment, I won't update that list yet.

Could be true!

This thread has so far only dealt with the "Largest" rather than the "Busiest"aspect of these railway terminals, and it'd probably be good to keep it that way, given the difficulty so far defining this concept and coping with platform counts ... perhaps a busiest terminal(s)" thread is also needed.

However, I note that the only two stations on our list here from Indian Railways- which I thought were the busiest in the world- are Howrah & Sealdah in Calcutta. I'm sure Victoria in Mumbai (along with others in India) has enough platforms to get on the list? Perhaps you can help us ...

Copenhagen Nörreport Station serves 300.000 passengers per day, if that can help your list.

I know we already stated that Chicago Union Station has 30 platforms handling Amtrack and 6 commuter rail lines.

I looked it up and the Ogilvie Station (Northwest Station) has 16 platforms handling 3 commuter rail lines.

The LaSalle street station handles 2 commuter rail lines and has 8 platforms.

The Randolph Street Station handles 4 commuter/electric rail lines and has 12 platforms in their brand new underground station.

Union: 30
Ogilvie 16
LaSalle 8
Randolph 12

This is a total of 66 platforms for the 4 major rail station serving downtown Chicago.

Requires a Chinese person (or someone very familiar with Chinese rail) to identify such stations.

Remember, here are the rules we have agreed upon.

* Must be a centrally (generally) located "terminus" station, that is, not just a large suburban station. Central stations that are also "through" stations can be included if they are major points to arrive at the city. (i.e. Hamburg Hauptbahnhof)

* Count the number of PLATFORMS, not the number of rail lines.

* Include all Platforms, Heavy rail (Long distance, commuter etc), Suburban and Metro (Subway), as long as they are part of the main station (i.e. a subway station where one has to leave the complex and walk on the street to the main station cannot be included, but if there is a direct link between the two it can)

* Only include Stations, if the total number of platforms is or greater than 10.

Indeed, if subway stations would be included, then you would add to the list not only Châtelet, but also République, Nation, Opéra and maybe La Défense.

By the way, what about the TGV stations in Ile-de-France such as those of Massy, the Charles-de-Gaulle airport or Disneyland Paris ? National rails stop in those hub however I have no clue whether they could be considered as "terminal".

So far it has been agreed not to include them, similar large suburban stations in other cities have also been omitted for the same reason.

Then the number for Hamburg Hauptbahnhof has to be corrected from 16 to 18.
- Platforms no. 1, 2, 3, 4 are used solely for the S-Bahn.
- Platforms 5, 6, 7, 8, 11, 12, 13, 14 are used for regional and long distance trains.
- No. 9 and 10 are just rails without (public) platform, therefore not to be counted here.
- The three U-Bahn lines have 2 platforms each at the Hauptbahnhof, amounting to 6 platforms.
