#PROJECT: SAADIYAT ISLAND

Abu Dhabi announces Dh100b project

A model of the Saadiyat Island project. It will be developed in three phases with total completion scheduled for 2018.

Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi yesterday unveiled plans to develop Saadiyat Island into an international tourism destination by attracting about Dh100 billion in three phases through public-private partnerships.

General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supre-me Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, announced the creation of a public joint stock company to drive the development.

The company, Tourism Development and Investment Co. (TDIC), will have an initial capital of Dh100 million and would be fully owned by the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority.

"Saadiyat Island will be the first of many projects falling under" the new company, he said. "This is an important chapter in Abu Dhabi's history. The creation of TDIC ushers in a new era of economic transition for the emirate, while the development of Saadiyat, a unique natural resource, represents one of the most vibrant episodes in the capital's evolution."

"Saadiyat is a symbol of Abu Dhabi's renewed economic openness and a signal to the world that this emirate is very much open for partnerships and business on an international scale."

Shaikh Sultan Bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, chairman of the Tourism Authority, said major development parcels were being offered to UAE and Gulf investors on a freehold basis with non-GCC investors being offered 99-year leases or 50-year renewable leases.

"We expect that we will be able to attract investments of about Dh100 billion over the three phases of development," he said.

TDIC will be responsible for the infrastructure of the island, which is estimated to cost about Dh5.5 billion, he said.

Saadiyat will be developed in three phases with total completion scheduled for 2018. The masterplan envisages six highly individual districts with 29 hotels, including a seven-star resort, three marinas, museums and cultural centres, two golf courses, civic and leisure facilities, sea-view apartments and elite villas.

The six island districts are: Cultural District, Al Marina, Saadiyat Beach, South Beach, Saadiyat Park and The Wetlands.

Saadiyat is expected to be a home to more than 150,000 people and will be linked to Abu Dhabi via two 10-lane freeways.

Saadiyat Island plan unveiled

Abu Dhabi yesterday unveiled the Saadiyat Island development project, with an estimated infrastructure cost of Dh5.5 billion, to be managed by the Tourism Development and Investment Company (TDIC), a newly established subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA).

The property, a 27-square kilometre natural island just 500 metres north east of the capital, has the potential to attract Dh100bn in investments from investors and realtors.

General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Executive Council, launched the TDIC – a public joint stock company with the Saadiyat Island development project. He said the launch of the company and its flagship project ushers in a new era of economic transition signaling the opening up to partnerships and business on an international scale.

The project signifies the importance Abu Dhabi gives to the private sector joining hands with the public sector in building a new and more open economy to attract investment from abroad, said Sheikh Mohammed.

Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Chairman of ADTA and TDIC, said the property is already open to buyers and booking can be made immediately.

The Saadiyat Island will have six distinct regions with state of the art living and recreational facilities, resorts, a sea-front hotel, a 19km white sand beach, two golf courses, three marinas with berthings for 1,000 vessels, about 8,000 private villas and 38,000 apartments, and 29 hotels with more than 7,000 rooms.

The six regions will be interlinked by a palm-laced arterial freeway, while the island will be linked to Abu Dhabi by two causeways – each having 10-lane freeways. One of the causeways will have the provision for a future plan to put in a light-rail line.

Sheikh Sultan said Saadiyat Island’s transformation will give a major boost to tourism, raising the number of tourists to the emirate from the current one million to three million by 2015, a growth of 11.3 per cent a year.

“This by comparison to other tourist destinations is not a very big figure, but we like to ensure high-end visitors to ensure environmental protection,” he said.

Mubarak Al Muhairy, Director General of ADTA and Managing Director of TDIC said, the Saadiyat Island has the potential to draw Dh100bn in investments.

The third one will be similar to SZR extending all the way to Mina zayed and the fourth will be lots of clusters scattered all over the islands (like al reem island...etc)

Well ok then ..... the above Tower is called the "Landmark" tower , just a name .. it will have 96 floors and slightly over 400 meters. But they are planning on building ANOTHER tower wich will be Abu Dhabis landmark , like Bruj Al arab in Dubai it will be located on a man made island over looking the whole AD skyline and its going to take your breathaway i cant really talk about the second project because certain people can get into trouble, so anyway ..

Here is the tower for you guys , and i was told that very few modifecations were made to the overall look of the building but nothing too drastic
