wouldn't it be cool if there was a building with a hydraulic spire that increased to make it the WTB and keep the title continuously? If it existed.... BoC would deserve it

My favorite building in Asia, I gave it a 9/10. Very interesting design, and cool looking, albeit imperfect. From the right (or rather, wrong) angle, the massing is way off. The second picture is a good example... it's just too fat at the bottom and skinny at the top.

ALL BOW in SERVITUDE !!!

OK .. I must admit I was always a 'fan' of BoC, but always admired many other scrapers as well equally .. I mean its very clever design but after all isn't it just some triangles and blue glass ????

Maybe.. but that was until I saw it in the flesh last week!!!!

BANK OF CHINA

I thought I'd seen enough pictures to pass it off and know what to expect .. but really seeing it in person, from some very subtle and different angles at different times of the day.. like walking back down the hill from the peak tram at night..

Oh wow.. gobsmacked isnt the word!!

And I didnt get nearly the same reaction from Central Plaza, The Centre or even 2IFC for much of the time (though I loved them all greatly nonetheless)

So it's easily 10/10 for me.. the sad part is I can no longer quite look at my beloved Rialto quite the same again.. tho that will also be a 10/10 for me anyway. And theres always Eureka to come!

The people who voted less than 3 are voting out of spite and jealousy. They are not real skyscraper fans and should find some other hobby.

Stanford - LOL :rotf:

You're not the first to think that...I recall seeing a cartoon from the 1920s or 1930s showing a young, enthusiastic architect trying to sell a skepitcal owner/developer on a building that looked rather like the Chrysler Building, with an adjustable spire carefully hidden inside, ready to be raised higher as needed...
[would this have been called cheating, I wonder?]

9.5/10..There's not much to say about it. I can't think of anything bad to say. It's one of a kind.

the walk from the peak station to statue square at night ...
it certainly was one of the most surreal experience for a skyscraper ...
