From the first time i saw this design, i fell in love with it..

the design is the best thing we can have, i think.
I love it, really! the lobby is almost the same as WT7. the materials are cool! and it's a great tall thick block which remember to the old WTC twins.

the only thing i don't like is the design of the WT2-5 towers, but they are still going under design work, so we'll see.

The remaining towers will look nothing like those ugly slanted roofs.

Remember the original ugly design of the Fraud 'em Tower

Thankfully, no stupid windmill with the fear 'em effect.

The other towers will hopefully look much better than anything thus far.

With all the pressure on making the Fraud 'em Tower so obvious, the other towers won't be so strict on how they look.

i totally agree... i find it quite graceful, i do like the base as it mirrors that of 7wtc. and i especially like the whole arrangement at the top with the circle and the lattice spire....

i eagerly await the other office buildings designs, they will definatley be good...i mean we're talking foster here!

im just dissapointed in the progress. im fairley sure that it will take a long time to get started...

This is what deserves to be in the WTC. Daniel Libeskind won the competition and it was taken from him......

It's still too tall. I like the FT to be just as high as the 7 world trade center. Period

Geez. It's hard time you come back to the real world and realize that this is a done deal. No more negotiations. No more delays. No more redesigns, well, a small redesign for the spire, but no overhaul.

Most importantly, no cancellation. Period.
I take it that you weren't reading the article and rather just what was in boldface, but I will give you the paragraph to show where I am right about what I mentioned.

"But crucial to going forward is getting federal tenants into the tower, which is by no means a done deal. Indeed, New Jersey agreed to go along with the Freedom Tower takeover only after New York Gov. George E. Pataki promised to lure federal agencies as a hedge against the building being a financial drain to the authority. Gov. Pataki has until September, when the final rebuilding pact is due to be signed. If he can't land a government tenant, the New Jersey half of the Port Authority says it will cancel the Freedom Tower."

Why not have it cancelled. Th FT looks so hideous, instead lets build a memorial for the lost victims of 9-11.

Ditto. The building looks quite nice at night actually, but during the day it leaves much to be desired... In height especially.

Actually I totally agree with Modernization, I'm tottaly opposed to having any skyscrapers built down there.
I can live with one giant tower, but Silverstein's plans to get 5 others is stupid. And the FT is a recipe for disaster, the name is stupid, and the design was horrible. Luckily Childs managed to move it up to plain average, but it will never be anything special and I will never respect it. To me it will be an eyesore in my skyline, on the same ranks as Conde Nast

1) He never won the competition. The Governor overrode the decision of the cometition judges in his favor.

2) None of his designs were buildable. The tall one in particular would have fallen over into West Street because it wasn't designed right.

The gorvernor is going to force the agencies to sign on to the tower. Why? Because it's his legacy. It's the monument to his time as governor and what he's going to point to when/if he runs for president.

Stop being ignorant.

Agreed, saw a doco on this recently, and Childs in particular came off like such an a-hole.

Daniel's design looks interesting and soothing in a way, whilst instead now we get a half-baked soulless 'fortress america' design.

If they want to build something as tall the old fashioned FT, then have it build in midtown manhanttan. To me the FT and its 5 extra buildings only worsen the view why not shorten its height so it'll fit with the downtown's complex. Height isn't important, quality is the key.

I personally wouldn't call the original WTC a design; rather two extremely tall boxes. It was ugly but became an icon of NYC because of it's dominance over the NYC skyline. Anyways the debate over replacing the site with the original design is over and the Freedom Tower will be built. You might not like it now but it will be an icon of NYC in years to come.

Spoken just like someone who didn't have the pleasure of seeing the twins in person. Trust me, if you had, you wouldn't call them ugly, not one bit. The facade was beautifully and intricately sculpted. The base and the lobby was beautiful and is several BILLION times better than the FT's bunker-like base. Sure their shape is boxy, but they were the product of the era they were built in, so what do you want?
