...And is the current FT design a product of the current era? Looking at what else is proposed and u/c around the world, I don't think so.

Unfortunately I will have to say though that the bunker-like podium IS a product of the paranoid era we do live in - Shanghai's World Financial Center currently u/c has a similar base - also in the render below, it at least has an antrium/entrance arcade.

I agree with you. The original project of Daniel Libeskind it's very much better.

*sorry, my english is not good
The masterplan and designs where good, but there wasn't enough office space in the towers. so, the change the plan a little bit, and they puts more towers on the project. then there came a new design competition for the memorial. so, then the towers where made taller, to made for the second time more space. The design of the original Freedom Tower wasn't good enough to hold his own structure, and in the opinion of Larry Silverstein the tallest tower wasn't useful space. So, they design a new tower. Do you remember that freaky steel skeleton? In the opinion of New York Firedepartment, it wasn't good enough to hold a bombing, and so there where more things. So they designed the Freedom Tower a thirth time, and that's this one.

looking at many of the projects around the world this bunker-base style is catching on.... whether its for security or its just a trend is debatable but i cant say id like to see a lot of it...

The best memorial for 9-11 is to build on, build taller and move the dream on!

I actually did have the opportunity to see them in person; although I am from SD i lived in Connecticut and my father commuted to NYC everyday. I dont really mean that they were ugly rather that the shape was just plain to me anyhow; the facade being aside the point.

I never saw the twin towers in person unfortuantly( i wish i did) but even today they are still my second fav building. They may have been a plain shape, but their immense size and facade/lobby (judging by pics) is why they were an awesome looking building. The other reason is they did not cheat in their height. They continued the same basic floor plan right to the roof unlike many other buildings to collect the title.

I like the actual building but that spire is just god-awful.

I hope that 2 WTC will look like a taller sized tower with the same materials use, as WT7.

Something like this:

But the FT has much more a "skyscraper" feeling for me (Then the Burj Dubai or something else). I don't know why, maybe because it thickness at higher levels..

Right now, it looks like they are bringing away all of the dirt that they dug up, so it won't be long before they start drilling into the rock.

Props to Frank K for his FT diagram

On the webcam, it seems to be making great progress. Finally getting off of the ground. I remember in 2003 when the first design was released I we were so exited. But many didnt like the birdcage on top. Alot, has changed since then. Once going to be the tallest in the world now, only the tallest in New York. But it does bring pride in American hearts, knowing that the wounds of 9/11 are slowly but surely beggining to heal. These yers to come will be amazing. If you think about it, it will be like the old WTC being built, which many of us wasnt even born yet. [B]Does anyone know when they will start drilling the columns in the ground? It shouldnt be that far away, the progress is going preety fast.
