Boeing Delivers Cathay Pacific Airways' 50th 777-300ER
Airline is Asia's largest 777-300ER operator

Excerpt

EVERETT, Wash., April 30, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Boeing (NYSE: BA) and Cathay Pacific Airways celebrated today the delivery of the airline's 50th 777-300ER (Extended Range). With this delivery, Cathay Pacific will have 67 777s in operation, which also includes 12 777-300s and five 777-200s. Cathay Pacific is slated to receive three more 777-300ERs this year and is one of the launch customers for the 777X with 21 777-9X airplanes on order.

"The 777-300ER forms the backbone of our long-haul fleet," said Ivan Chu, Chief Executive, Cathay Pacific Airways. "We operate the largest 777-300ER fleet in Asia, and this super-efficient long haul aircraft allows us to operate multiple daily frequencies to intercontinental markets, which gives our customers a lot of choices."

Cathay Pacific was voted the world's best airline of the year in 2014, for the fourth time, in the airline industry's most comprehensive customer satisfaction surveys conducted by SkyTrax. It bases all awards on a survey of over 18 million airline passengers hailing from over 160 countries.

"We truly value the confidence Cathay Pacific have demonstrated in the 777 program as well as Boeing's products and services across the board," said Ihssane Mounir, senior vice president of Sales for Northeast Asia, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "We are honored that the 777-300ER continues to play a prominent role in the success of Cathay Pacific's business expansion and we look forward to expanding our partnership with the new 777X in the years to come."

The 777-300ER is the most fuel and cost-efficient airplane in its class as well as the most reliable twin-aisle aircraft in the world. It also has the highest cargo capability of any passenger airplane. The 777-300ER will receive further improvements in 2016 designed to reduce fuel use by two percent.

What's happening with the B-HNL now? Is this former Boeing 777 prototype still with CX?

CX still flies the A330. I was on one yesterday. Do you have a specific registration for the aircraft in question?

Cathay Pacific releases combined traffic figures for April 2015
Press Release Excerpt
15 May 2015

Cathay Pacific Airways today released combined Cathay Pacific and Dragonair traffic figures for April 2015 that show an increase in both the number of passengers carried and the cargo and mail uplift compared to the same month last year.

Cathay Pacific and Dragonair carried a total of 2,912,562 passengers in April – an increase of 7.7% compared to the same month last year. The passenger load factor grew by 2.5 percentage points to 87.2% while capacity, measured in available seat kilometres (ASKs), increased by 4.3%. In the first four months of the year, passenger traffic grew by 8.4% while capacity was up by 6.2%

The two airlines carried 144,579 tonnes of cargo and mail last month, an increase of 5.2% compared to April 2014. The cargo and mail load factor fell by 0.5 percentage points to 62.6%. Capacity, measured in available cargo/mail tonne kilometres, rose by 7.3% while cargo and mail revenue tonne kilometres (RTKs) flown increased by 6.3%. In the first four months of the year, tonnage rose by 10.5% against a capacity increase of 9.1% and a 13.0% rise in RTKs.

Cathay Pacific General Manager Revenue Management Patricia Hwang said: “After a strong March, passenger demand remained robust throughout April and the growth in traffic once again outpaced the growth in capacity. Demand was boosted by the Easter and Ching Ming holiday at the beginning of the month, particularly out of our home market. Japan, Korea and Thailand were the most popular destinations for Easter getaways from Hong Kong though we also saw high load factors to other Asian destinations and Australia/New Zealand. Demand in the premium cabins was slightly behind expectations, particularly on long-haul routes.”

Is that true that Cathay Pacific has no interest in purchasing A380?

Cathay says carry-on bag size won’t change
14 June 2015
South China Morning Post Excerpt

Airline allays concerns after it signed on to new international standards dictating smaller uniform sizes for onboard luggage

Cathay Pacific passengers can relax – the airline insists it has no plans to cut the maximum size of carry-on luggage in cabins despite signing up to international guidelines that would set a smaller standard.

The airline raised eyebrows last week when it became one of the first to sign up to new guidelines from the International Air Transport Association that set a one-size-fits-all standard for carry-on bags.

The move led to concerns that travellers would have to measure their bags at the airport like passengers flying with low-cost airlines, and pay more to stow oversized bags in the hold.

But a Cathay spokeswoman confirmed the maximum size of carry-on bags would remain at 56x36x23cm, as opposed to the 55x35x20cm limit under the IATA guidelines. Instead, the guidelines would allow for agreements with baggage manufacturers to sell bags carrying an “IATA Cabin OK” logo.

“We have no plan to make changes to the standard at this stage,” the spokeswoman said of Cathay’s baggage rules.

But, under the guidelines Cathay has signed up for, luggage with the IATA logo would receive priority when overhead lockers in cabins filled up.
