Cathay Pacific considering new destinations in India
The Indian Express Excerpt
October 12, 2015

With India projected to become the third largest aviation market in the world by the end of the decade, Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific Airways have started examining traffic potential on routes beyond the six metropolitan cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Hyderabad to add new points of calls and launch new services once fresh bilateral rights are made available.

James Tong, director, corporate affairs, Cathay Pacific Airways, “India is among our top 10 markets. It is a big expanding market and traffic from India to Hong Kong is growing in double-digits. I expect the country to move up in our pecking order in the coming years.” Over half the traffic that Cathay Pacific flies out of India currently travels onwards to destinations in North America and Australia.

Cathay Pacific operates 48 weekly departures from six metros in India to Hong Kong. The airline has exhausted the allotted bilateral air traffic rights. When more seat entitlements are made available, the airline would launch flights to more destinations in the country. “Ahmedabad is an interesting option. We are exploring the traffic potential in different cities but would only start services to new points of call once fresh bilaterals are made available. We want to fly more passengers out of India not only to Hong Kong but also beyond to destinations in North America, Australia and North-East Asia,” informed Tong.

Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) data shows that as of winter schedule 2014-15 capacity entitlement between India and Hong Kong stood at 45 services and an added 1,250 seats per week. Indian carriers utilise less than half the available bilaterals operating 21 flights per week (or 6,160 seats) between India and Hong Kong. Foreign carriers based in Hong Kong last winter operated more than double the number of flights at 46 services (or 11,409 seats) every week to cities in India.

Cathay to divert flights away from Caspian Sea
14 October 2015
South China Morning Post Excerpt

Cathay Pacific has suspended flights over Iran and the Caspian Sea following warnings from air safety agencies that Russian missiles targeting Syrian rebels pose a threat to passenger jets.

The International Civil Aviation Organisation and the European Aviation Safety Agency issued safety advisories last week over intensifying military activity.

Russia, since late September, has been firing rockets over these areas – where major commercial flight paths intersect – into war-torn Syria, targeting Islamic State.

Cathay Pacific stopped routing aircraft over the danger zone last Thursday and confirmed it received the guidance which “made no specific recommendations to carriers” at the time of the issuance.

A handful of other airlines, including Air France, previously flying over the Caspian Sea, Iraq and Iran are reported to have joined the Hong Kong-based carrier, in rerouting away from the military activity.

Cathay said it had a long-term policy not to fly over Iraq, Afghanistan, Ukraine and Syria.

“In view of the situation in the region, Cathay Pacific suspended all flights over Iran and the Caspian Sea since last Thursday until further notice,” a spokeswoman said. “We continue to monitor and review the situation on a daily basis.”

Flights 293 and 292 – to and from Rome – are currently being routed over northern China, towards Moscow, before taking a southern flight path into the Italian capital, instead of directly flying over the Caspian Sea.

Cathay Pacific releases combined traffic figures for September 2015
Press Release Extract
15 Oct 2015

Cathay Pacific Airways today released combined Cathay Pacific and Dragonair traffic figures for September 2015 that show an increase in both the number of passengers carried and the amount of cargo and mail uplifted compared to the same month last year.

Cathay Pacific and Dragonair carried a total of 2,632,845 passengers last month – an increase of 5.8% compared to September 2014. The passenger load factor grew by 2.9 percentage points to 83.9% while capacity, measured in available seat kilometres (ASKs), grew by 3.4%. In the year to the end of September, passenger traffic rose by 8.2% while capacity increased by 6.0%.

The two airlines carried 151,358 tonnes of cargo and mail in September, an increase of 2.8% compared to the same month last year. The cargo and mail load factor rose by 0.2 percentage points to 62.4%. Capacity, measured in available cargo/mail tonne kilometres, rose by 3.0% while cargo and mail revenue tonne kilometres (RTKs) flown increased by 3.4%. In the year to the end of September, tonnage rose by 5.6% against a capacity increase of 7.2% and a 7.4% rise in RTKs.

Cathay Pacific General Manager Revenue Management Patricia Hwang said: “After a very busy summer peak, passenger traffic dropped back in September in line with our expectations. However, demand in the Economy cabins remained generally robust and we saw a decent increase in load factor compared to the same month last year. Regional leisure demand was buoyant and we saw passenger numbers begin to climb back on the Bangkok route after the Hong Kong SAR Government lifted its Red Outbound Travel Alert. September usually marks the beginning of the peak season for corporate travel but we didn’t see any significant surge last month. Premium demand on long-haul routes in particular continued to lag expectations.”

Cathay Pacific to launch Madrid service in 2016; opens new lounge in Naia

http://www.sunstar.com.ph/cebu/lifes...ge-naia-437030

Quote:
CATHAY Pacific Airways (CX) recently announced that it will launch a new four-times-weekly service to Madrid, the capital city of Spain, on June 2, 2016, subject to government approval.

As the only direct link between Hong Kong and Madrid, the new service will provide greater convenience for business and leisure customers travelling between the two cities.

These services are ideal for passengers flying from Cebu and Southern Philippines, as they will be able to make same-day connections to the four weekly flights between Hong Kong and Madrid.

CX will operate flights using a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft fitted with the airline’s business class, new premium economy and long-haul economy class seats. According to the company, state-of-the-art on-demand entertainment system in all classes will help to keep passengers relaxed and entertained.

Tickets for the new Madrid service are already on sale, with launching promos starting at US$887 for economy class, US$1,982 for premium economy, and US$3,152, airfare only. These fares include 30-40 kilos of baggage allowance per person. Passengers can visit www.cathaypacific.ph to check out these fares and make bookings.

Tentatively, CX will fly to and from Madrid on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Meanwhile, CX opened a new loung for passengers travelling out of Manila Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) Terminal 3 on May 9.

Located at level 4 near gate 114, the lounge adopts the new Studiolise design template first used In the airline’s lounge at Haneda Airport in Tokyo.

The Manila lounge measures 650 square meters, which is almost twice as large as the previous lounge at Manila Airport Terminal 1, and can seat approximately 135 people. The lounge’s The Bureau provides three individual workstations with dual operating system iMacs and printers. Free wi-fi access is also available throughout the lounge.

With a greater focus on food and beverage services, the dining area features Cathay Pacific‘s signature Noodle Bar, which offers a selection of Asian noodles including dandan mien and wonton noodle soup, freshly prepared by a chef. During the morning hours until 11:00 a.m., an authentic Philippine breakfast will also be offered. Another dining highlight is the Bar, where passengers can enjoy a wide selection of tapas, desserts, freshly blended cocktails and a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

Swiss man jailed for molesting attendants on Cathay Pacific flight to Hong Kong
23 October 2015
South China Morning Post Excerpt

A Swiss man was jailed for 30 days on Thursday after admitting to molesting three attendants on a Cathay Pacific flight.

Rolf Rimann, 46, pressed the lower part of his body against flight attendant X and touched flight attendant Y's buttock when he was flying from Zurich to Hong Kong in September, Tsuen Wan Court heard.

After molesting the two, Rimann grabbed the waist of a third flight attendant, Z.

He pleaded guilty to three counts of indecent assault.

The court heard that Rimann touched Y for as long as three seconds and denied touching Z when he was confronted by the attendant, who felt humiliated after the assault.

The court did not reveal the identities of the flight attendants for privacy reasons.

The Swiss man, who was on flight CX382, had consumed two glasses of red and one of white wine before the incident, the court heard.

X told Y and Z about Rimann's assault on her shortly before her colleagues also became victims.

The three then notified their manager, who - with the consent of the flight captain - issued Rimann a warning letter.

"I will not do it again," Rimann told the manager after receiving the letter.

Police were called after the plane touched down in Hong Kong.

Oh yeah, it's such a disappointment, especially coming from CX.
When they unveiled the branding refresh last year, the first thing that came to my mind was the livery might look too plain if white and green are the only colors used and my doubt is confirmed. :-(

I was also hoping for a curvy design similar to Vietnam Airlines and KLM's new livery or a more creative one like Etihad's.
