Sure, Chicago is no NYC. But then again, LA can't touch Chicago when it comes to skyscrapers (and urbanity IMO).

Chicago just has so many skyscrapers that you can't even see a fraction of them in any one pic, just like NYC.
I've been to Chicago already. I'm well aware of its classic architecture. I still stand firm on my opinion.

You know what, this is getting beyond retarded.

Seriously..people...WHAT THE ****???

Everyone and their mother knows that Chicago and New York City has more skyscrapers that LA. SO THE **** WHAT?? Saying that NYC and Chicago has more skyscrapers than LA is saying that the sky is blue and the sun is shining. I'm proud that you can think of a dozen 30+ story art deco buildings in Chicago? What does that say about you? That you have no life other than counting each and every type of skyscraper in Chicago?

This thread is NOT about Chicago, NYC, Dubai, Guam, Samoa, or the island with those giant stone heads. This thread is about LOS ******* ANGELES!!

No wonder I prefer SSP to this place.

Okay, to get this thread back on track, I got notice from Tutor-Saliba this morning that construction will start on the LAPD Headquarters Building on Nov. 12. Since I live right across the street, I'll be giving regular updates, once actual work commences.

at least it wont be a hole in the ground. its so sad to see something that would be so good be ruined and it happens in front of your eyes. everyone knows this will be a mistake now, in 10 years and especially in 20 years. how sad.

Great news!!!

Titan Closes Escrow on Towers

By DANIEL MILLER
Los Angeles Business Journal Staff

The Titan Organization Inc. has taken another step towards building its pair of $500 million luxury apartment towers in downtown Los Angeles’ South Park district.

The company, formerly known as Rodmark Inc., has closed escrow on a 58,000-square-foot property at the southeast corner of Grand Avenue and Olympic Boulevard where the Olympic and City House will be built. The towers will be tallest residential buildings on the West Coast when completed.

Titan, a Los Angeles-based high-rise developer, purchased the property from owner Jim Myron for $30 million and hopes to break ground in summer 2007.

The two towers – one 60 stories the other 49 – will total 800,000 square feet and contain 320 units. The towers will be fashioned in the New Beaux Arts style.

Phillip Sample, Michael Shustak and Chris Caras of Grubb & Ellis Co. represented Titan in the deal.

Hanover Tower

The usual angle. The residential floors look a bit short to be a Storm Trooper. Or "luxury".

I noticed that there's two levels higher than the rest of the floors. Is that where the wrap around billboard is going to be set?
The signage will cover from the 3rd floor to the lower "higher" level that you are refering to. The level above is the Amenity Area that will be a common area for all residences.

That's question with 100 answers.
In a side note, why did the South Group take a crane out? Why did they have 3 for a time?

Good news, no make that very good news for the Downtown LA Office market...

Herbalife to Move Downtown

By DANIEL MILLER
Los Angeles Business Journal Staff

Herbalife Ltd. is moving to downtown Los Angeles in a boost to the L.A. Live development next to the Staples Center.

The company will move its headquarters from Century City when construction on the downtown project is completed in early 2008. The 10-year lease deal at the 4-million square foot mixed use development calls for the weight loss and nutritional products company to occupy 60,000 square feet in a five-story office building.

“This is terrific,” said John McAniff, a managing director with Jones Lang LaSalle Inc., a real estate services firm with a presence downtown. “It’s further validation of downtown.”

Herbalife did not return calls seeking comment. However, the company is not expected to move its other local operations in Torrance and Carson.

The $2.5 billion L.A. project, being developed by billionaire Philip Anschutz’s AEG, will feature a variety of offerings – from restaurants and office space to broadcast studios and concert space.

The value of the lease deal was not disclosed.
