I went by Ralphs too they are progressing really good putting up the outer walls for the 5th floor, I went to South sales center and the guy told me that Figueroa Central is temporaily cancelled due to rising construction costs and that they are revising the former 34 story tower in Fig South to 23 stories and the other one will remain 34 stories, also Concerto should start in June and Olympic & City house look definite cuz those developers have very deep pockets. Everything seems to be going in full speed u can see the momentum gaining everyday u are downtown it seems like more people are rediscovering it and more ped and auto traffic on the streets.

^ Thanks Raymond3000 for the verbal update. Sad to hear the (Fig Central) is temp. Cancelled due to funding. Any pix by the way?

I'd like to know what happened to the Pacific Exchange Towers? Seems like they had the foundation built -or at least part of it- and then stopped....what's going on?

No way there will be a crane at Concerto in June, but site work should be started. You may see a pile driving machine and some earth moving machine, but it will be months before a tower crane arrives on that site. Still, some of those predictions were pretty good!

May 22nd, 2006

Couple updates from random reading from the LA Buisiness Journal, Los Angeles Magazine, Driving around town, etc.

1) The new Los Angeles Magazine has a huge spread on the revitilization of Hollywood. pretty good.

2) the W in Hollywood will "have a public entrance on Hollywood blvd with a big screen and will be the start of a red-carpet like feature that leads visitors through the hotel and the motor court" (LABJ) Also, the city wanted the Corner of Argyle and Hollywood to to have a prominent feature so a steel structure that will be illuminated at night with LED lighting. The compnay expectrs contstruction starting at the end of the year on the hotel. Daddys has gotten there 90 day notice.

3)The 50 story tower on Wilshire, the site is fenced off with signs and renderings and with a quick drive by, it seemed as though the site had been cleared. Hopefully we will see construction soon

4) lots of development going on all over LA, especially Hollywood and DT. maybe it was the weather today, but i was so optimistic while i was driving around.

5) the Corner of Highland and Franklin, the Conversion of that building is well underway. Also, what is goin on that plot next to it?

6) The wilshire Subway stop mixed use was moving along nicely.

7) the LABJ had a big interview witht he devloper of the Californian, and how he moved here from Chicago because is company is going to focus on Infill on the westcoast and that their second project on wilshire the Coutryview, overlooking the LA Country club, will be 21 stories and has gotten entitlements and approvals

8) interesting tidbit from Steve Fifield, the before mentioned developer of the Countryview and Californian, quote, "Wilshire Blvd is the largest concentration of High rise condos in the united states."

thats all for now.

So cool, the site for the 50 story Wilshire tower is fenced off, what's the name of the tower btw?
"Wilshire Blvd is the largest concentration of high rise condos in the United States." Kickass, and amazing!

The empty lot on Highland/Franklin was to be developed and construction was to begin soon, but the deal fell through after the due diligence phase.

I'm not big on geography, but apparently there is a major fault line running through the site also. Isnt that everywhere in LA though?

There is a fault right under downtown that can produce a earthquake near or above 8.0.

^ Isn't that the reason why Downtown has a height limit. Although their is new technology to withstand a semi major tremor in the city. Doesn't Kobe Japan started building more high rises with this new technology???

^ Had. I think it was a 13 story limit. Only City Hall was premitted to exceed that limit. Btw..not many people know this, but if you go to Cal Plaza, if you ever notice those vent bands on the towers, that's how tall you could build back then. Here is a picture of the vents:

CP1:
CP2:

Btw..I added some stuff to the front page.

Actually I was cool with the old facade, but oh well a new one is cool too. Is the building all AT & T or does it have other clients in it?
