hey hows it going guys im new to these forums and durob and mimca(for example) i read your guys last posts in the other thread and im really excited about all the investing in skopje. me and my father are seriously thinking about investing somewhere in skopje, but we have no clue what to invest in or build. so djurob, can you please tell me what skopje needs because i know you live there.
BTW i remember seeing a post about the old skopje theater that was knocked down in the earthquake being rebuilt like it originally was...is that going to happen anytime soon? i would love to know because i would really like to see it and i think it will bring skopje a much-needed facelift...(it reminds me of buildings throughout central europe=nice countries) thanks

It really depends on the ammount of money that you are willing to invest in. I guess the most "risk free" investmen would be residentil objects as there is demand in Skopje. However, this year the prices of square meter have been stagnant and they might even go down a bit for the first time since the independance due to the large number of new appartments on the market. Other "good" investments in my opinion would be touristic/service fascilities (in particular hotels, bars, restaurants).... Skopje has lack of both high profile hotels and low cost hotels/hostels. Even though it is not a touristic destinations the statistics say that the number of visitors (especially foreign) visiting the city is increasing from year to year. With the further EU integration, the introduction of low cost carriers (Wizz air is expected to fly from September) the number of foreigners is likely to increase more. As for bars, restaurants, clubs etc.... I think there is always more space in Skopje for such investments... However compatition is tuff, it's not like 15 years ago, you can't pull off a mediocre joint, it has to be something nice, something with identity, with good quality services. The recently reconstructed pedestrian zones of Skopje are flocked with new joints opening up every day. Of course there are lots of other areas to invest in Skopje it would help out if U tell me a preliminary ammount of money that Ur willing to invest and perhaps some other details. U can always PM me if U are uncomfortable in talking about it in public. Also maybe U were thinking on investing into a business in Skopje. I could also give you some opinions about which businesses are good for Skopje. MAJOR obstacle that U could be facing in Skopje is the land ownership issue(Katastar in Macedonian). That thing is complete mess, there are many missing and overlaping documents, the services are slow and sluggish. There are currently projects for reforming and digitalizing this sector which should be finished by 2009, but till then in many areas especially in the center U could face land ownership problems. The unfinished denationalization process furthermore complicates this with disputed ownership over some pieces of land (usually attractive parcels) and there are some pending cases concerning this in the Macedonian courts.... When U add our sluggish judiciary system to all this U get the big picture... Of course I don't say it's all like this, but I think it would be fair to be objective and point out the good and bad sides at the same time.... So if U got more questions mate, shoot and I will tell U more... either here or over PM....

Very nice pics!
![]() Let me ask you guys something, does this sign say Skopje? http://i3.tinypic.com/xpa5ax.jpg Is the C pernounced an S (in English), the ΚΟΠ is the same as in Greek (I assume) and the J we don't have but it makes like a "ya" in Slavic right? And then the E is an e? CΚΟΠJE = SKOPJE?

one thing of some great importance in skopje is the parliament building...it is downright ugly. what are they going to do with it? build a new one? give the existing one a facelift? all i know is everytime i go to skopje over the summer and look at that building i get a bad feeling in my stomach. this is not only important for the look of skopje, but it's important for the look of the MK gov't....if they had a nicer parliament building people would think higher of them lol...any news on this djurob/anybody else?
