He has already spent nearly $20 Million on it so far, and the ground will break on that day.

Approximately 40% of the dollar value of condos have been reserved. It appears that Kimpton Hotels is now playing a larger role in the project as they are now occupying floors 1-14 instaed of floors 1-12.
It's like I told Uncle Dave, I'm willing to spring for shifting if we need to ship some crow to some folks.

It is reminiscent of Jin Mao's style, but they do look distinctly different.

The crown of the design reminds me more of Frost Bank Tower in Austin. In some ways there's a notion of the Chysler Building in there.

However, I think it is a fairly unique and well thought out design.

Anyways, when do they plan to get this underway?

I believe three years from now when the jewel is being placed on the spire there will be some on UP who still claim it is all just a publicity stunt and won't get built

Does anybody know what material will be used for the facade. I hope its not mostly glass and includes some masonry, but something tells me they will not skimp or go cheap on this tower!

I'm stoked for this one. Dig through 20 feet of dirt, blast through 80 feet of bedrock and start building upwards for 1,167 feet from the bottom of the hole. Will be a thrill to watch. Go Tony G.
A formal groundbreaking with the mayor and VIP's would be nice, but I'll be happy with a no fuss, let's get to work start and reserve the hoopla for the finished product.
Keep us updated on the groundbreaking Hankster and thanks again for getting the inside scoop for us.

That's from the old design (I believe) when it was still only going to be 850' tall. At the current height of 1,057, it will stick up off the page. But I agree at 850 or 1,057, it would be a spectacular buliding at either height.

Actually I stand corrected. Based upon proportions of the other buidings with the L & C being 409', that drawing is of the very first design with the tower at 700' high. So imagine it 2-1/2 times as tall as the L&C building and you will have the scale.

Yes it will stick up but so did BOA Charlotte and RSA Mobile and many others.

I'm wondering if anyone has been following the suite reservation figures on the Sig website. My count is about a third reserved with not much progress in the last few weeks. Tony G wanted roughly 60% before breaking ground. I strongly believe that once people start seeing the building rise, that it will be it's own best adversisement and sell out quickly, but the banks lending the money usually have strict requirements on pre-construction sale contract numbers. The condo market nationally has really hit the skids lately. Anyone have any comments on this? I'm hoping that it is a go regardless, and, like I said, over the three years that it will be under construction, sell itself. The fact that the hotel component is leased is a huge plus also, probably being nearly a quarter of the floorspace. Maybe the hotel plus a third of the units will be enough to release construction funds. Can anyone assuage my concerns?
