Certain forumers seem supremely confident that the tower is good to go.

Wow, beautiful building. Nice design. With that building the city's skyline is going to change a lot. Congrats to Nashville.

I agree. I believe Mr. Giarratanna has a lot of strings he can pull to assure some very creative financing. Plus Nashville really wants this building. A building of that size in a city the size of Nashville, while not unheard of, is very very unusual thus has received loads of international coverage. To not build it would be a black eye on the city given the positive press which ramped up over the past year.

It's supposed to break ground July 7th.

Let's hope so. The reservations have dropped from 143 to 121 as of this morning. All the high dollar units are still reserved but the drop is in the lower floors.

I wish the developer would post actual sales instead of using the word "reserved". Using that word it looks like he isn't converting to sales and the reservations he has are dropping.

It's hard to know what the reservations dropping means. In any case, I was under the impression that financing was not a problem. A poster on UP said Tony needed 60% to break ground and I haven't heard that anywhere.

Channel 4 news reported tonight that the developer is in talks with the construction company over a $5 million difference in construction costs. Groundbreaking was supposed to be this month...guess we'll have to wait a little longer....

i dont see it as a bad omen. i see it as good news in a way. we havent heard much from the tony camp lately. now this. this means at least it is still in the works and they are negotiating with the contractors! and 5mil is not a lot considering how much this project is really going to cost. thats one persons penthouse!

That's precisely how I took the news. The story confirmed plans to break ground this month, and as you said, $5 is nothing these days.

If need be...reduce 1 penthouse floor and add 12 feet to spire and break ground.

As Tony Giarratana states in this video from Channel 4 in Nashville, Sig Tower will be built, will open in 2010, and will be 70 stories. Groundbreaking will take place later this month. A $5 Million gap in construction costs has been significantly closed already and financing will be secured by the end of this week. Tony Giarratana has a history of delivering on what he says. If he says this as emphatically as he does in this video for all the world to see, I have to believe him. As for the 249 condo unit statement at the end of the piece, I tend to believe that was a mistake made by the news anchor. There are 400 units listed on their website as available, and that does not include floors 40 & 41. There would either be 16 units total on those two floors, making 416 units, or those two floors could possibly be mechanical, meaning that there are only 400 units.

Here's the video.

Monday's The Nashville City Paper has an article by W. Williams that states "With blasting and excavation permits now in hand, the visionary local developer expects within 30 days to move dirt". Also, the $5 million overage has been addressed with the construction company (Turner Const.)

I doubt the world would even bother to look - its a fairly good looking tower but far from extraordinary (chrysler 'knockoffs' are a dime a dozen) or reaching a jaw dropping height (on a world scale)
