be better off building two 500 footers, or four 250 footers - 1000 gonna look ridiculous

It actually won't look that bad. We've been stuck at 500 feet for way too long. All we need is this one break through, and then we'll start to fill in. There's enough demand for some more 600 to 700 footers to balance out the skyline.

No more ridiculous than many other towers in other cities. BOA Charlotte stood all alone when built (I drove through Charlotte and it looked like Charlotte had one really tall building), RSA in Mobile is definitly alone. So I prefer to think of buildings that jump like this as simply waiting for their friends to arrive.

The Signature Tower design has been refined at street level, and now has more of an art deco look. Also, the low rise structure has been changed to brick. I think these changes are a great improvement to the design. The spire has also been modified to include holes in the fins to reduce sway in high winds. Here are the official stats for the new design:

Number of floors: 70
Height to top of spire: 1057 Ft 0 In
Height to top of 70th floor penthouse: 829 Ft 10 In
Total number of levels including underground parking: 82

I talked to a sales agent for the nearby Encore project (also being developed by Tony Giarratana) who indicated that the Signature Tower project already has 190 of 400 units reserved. A sales office for Signature Tower is slated to open in January. The project also has inked Hotel Palomar for the hotel on levels 1-13. Groundbreaking is expected in January 2007.

Here are some renderings showing off the new design changes.

When does it start?

When will constructions for this building start? They will officially surpass Bank of America Plaza of 312 meters, 1,023 feet tall to become the tallest bulding outside of New York City and Chicago.

Very good. I like the back to basic approach, and it's got it all: refinement, a a crown, height, a crowd pleaser! Well done!

Groundbreaking is expected in January 2007. That will include excavation of a more than 100 ft deep hole that will house the 1,000 space parking garage. The first 30 feet is fill dirt and will be removed rapidly, but the rest is solid limestone bedrock, and will take more than three months to remove. Actual construction of the parking garage is expected to begin around June 2007, I beleive. Contruction is scheduled for completion before the end of 2009.

I love this tower and am very tempted to buy a unit. The art deco design is fabulous and the revision a great improvement. My only beef way back in the initial renderings was the podium/parking garage which is now integrated into the design very well.
This is a really arcane question for any true architectural geeks, but does anyone know if codes in Memphis and/or Nashville require any seismic standards due to proximity to the New Madrid fault? I would feel safer if there were.

Because of the solid limestone bedrock that exists throughout the middle Tennessee area, Nashville is not at very great risk to a New Madrid earthquake. Unfortunately, Memphis is at great risk because of it's closer proximity and silty soil.

I love those entrances. Just hope that the building won't be too blue-ish.

wow, it dominates the skyline.

I live 200 miles from nashville, and I must say, its a great looking city. With this tower, its gonna look even better.

now if they can only compliment it with a few 200-250m buildings

Here's a couple of updated renderings of Signature Tower at night compliments of Charles Gaushell of Paradigm Productions. It's going to breathtaking at night, IMO.

It's rare when a building is proposed and there is NOTHING wrong with it at all. Stunning. Simply stunning.

This is exactly what the city needs, a building to identify the city. I think it looks very nice!

Well done! And thankyou so much for posting the renderings, thankyou.
