The Tower is named!!

http://www.adnec.ae/press/viewPress.php?id=1191836971

The Tower is called CAPITAL GATE - good name!
and the 5-star hotel will be HYATT AT CAPITAL CENTRE

From the ADNEC website:

HYATT INTERNATIONAL TO OPERATE 5 STAR HOTEL AT FEATURE TOWER TO BE NAMED 'CAPITAL GATE'

Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC) has announced that the Feature Tower to be built next to the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre is to be named 'Capital Gate' and will include an exclusive new 200 room, 5 star hotel to be operated by Hyatt International.

The hotel will open in 2009 and will be the first Hyatt operated hotel in the UAE capital. In recognition of its significance and its stature, Hyatt International has named the hotel 'Hyatt at Capital Centre'. It will be one of the most exclusive business hotels in the world. Hyatt International already operates 3 luxury hotels in Dubai, UAE under the brands Park Hyatt, Grand Hyatt and Hyatt Regency

Commenting on the announcement, His Excellency Sheikh Sultan Bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, Chairman of Capital Centre and ADNEC said:

"On behalf of the UAE Government I warmly welcome Hyatt International to Abu Dhabi. Capital Gate is a unique building which will become famous around the world and as such it is essential that the hotel is operated by an organisation which matches its status, I’m delighted that this operator is Hyatt International.

The fact that 'Hyatt at Capital Centre', has been developed specifically for this project indicates an understanding by all involved that this is not an average hotel, in an average building in an average city; this is something unique and very special, which will exceed expectations. It will delight those that visit it and will amaze those who view it from afar. We look forward with anticipation watching this magnificent creation rise from the ground".

Gebhard Rainer, Managing Director, Hyatt International (Europe Africa Middle East) LLC added:

"Hyatt International is undergoing a major expansion strategy in the Middle East. We have been monitoring the incredible developments taking place in Abu Dhabi for some time and, for us, Capital Gate is the right building in the right location at the right time. Capital Centre is one of the Middle East’s most significant developments and I am delighted that Hyatt at Capital Centre is able to play its part in driving this unique project forward."

ADNEC recently announced that preparatory construction had begun on Capital Gate. When complete, Capital Gate will be 160 metres and 35 storeys tall and, in addition to the hotel, will provide the most exclusive office space in the UAE capital city.

Capital Gate forms a major part of the Capital Centre development, the AED8 billion business and residential micro city being constructed around the newly opened Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.

Global Hyatt Corporation is one of the world's premier hotel companies. The Corporation offers travellers more than 136,000 rooms in over 735 hotels, located in 44 countries around the world.

ADNEC hands over first plot of Capital Centre

Significant milestone in Capital Centre development

January 30, 2008

Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC) today (Wednesday, January 30, 2008) announced the handover of the first plot of Capital Centre land to Sultan Bin Rashed Group, marking a significant milestone in the project’s year long history. The handover took place on Capital Centre soil at ADNEC plot C.07.

Opening in early 2010, the development will be a striking tower of serviced hotel apartments with 207 rooms, featuring state-of-the-art facilities.

Commenting on the land handover, His Excellency Ahmad Humaid Al Mazrouie, Managing Director of Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company:

“Today marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter in the short history of Capital Centre. When this project was launched just over a year ago, we had a vision of attracting world-class developers who would transform this site into a thriving mixed use development, adjacent to the state-of-the-art exhibition facilities. We are honoured to handover this site to H.E. Sultan Saeed Bin Rashed Al Dhaheri and look forward to watching its magnificent building rise from the ground.”

Mr. Saeed Sultan Bin Rashed Al Dhaheri added:

“Capital Centre is one of the most significant economic development projects in the UAE. The success of the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre in attracting visitors to Abu Dhabi has created a new and exciting market which we are very excited to be part of. We are delighted to be the first to receive one of the 24 plots of land. I would like to thank the Chairman, the Board and the Management of ADNEC for this visionary project. With the support from the relevant Abu Dhabi authorities, we look forward to delivering an exciting serviced hotel development by early 2010.”

Mr Sanjay Tanna, Director of Business Development of Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company:

“Central to the strategy of the development of Capital Centre has been to attract the very best developers who share our vision of creating the world’s first fully networked exhibition lifestyle destination. From day one, Mr. Saeed Al Dhaheri understood and shared this vision. We at ADNEC are thrilled that we’ve delivered on schedule and received 100% customer satisfaction in the process.”

The remaining 23 plots of Capital Centre land are to be handed over within the month of February, to investors.

Abu Dhabi seems to be filling in the "gaps" that Dubai didn't yet fill - this exhibition center is an example - Dubai lacks one of this quality and location.

New project from ADNEC

Taken from AMEinfo http://www.ameinfo.com/156848.html

ADNEC reveals proposed Dhs3.5bn Al Ain Convention Centre and District at Cityscape Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC) has revealed the concept for a proposed new Dhs3.5bn ($1bn) business and residential micro-city to be built around a state-of-the art convention centre, hotel and cultural centre in Al Ain.

The Al Ain Convention Centre is being designed by an international team of master-planners, architects and engineers to create a thriving and desirable destination which is based on the extremely successful Capital Centre business development model.

The strategically-located clusters are earmarked for the mixed-use development of hotels, residential and commercial low-rise towers, in a fully integrated development around the new convention centre/ hotel and cultural centre.

Simon Horgan, ADNEC CEO said: “This development has been designed for the community and features significant open spaces which are all connected by walkways and usable areas that are free of cars. Considerable thought has been given to creating a natural and sustainable environment that people will enjoy using.”

Ideally located near the municipality area of the city, Al Ain’s first development of this kind focusing on convention development will create a vibrant business and lifestyle destination for residents and visitors alike. At the heart of this project will be a Dhs387m ($105m) state-of-the-art conference centre & hotel that will be owned by ADNEC. The conference centre & hotel will act as the anchor for rest of the development - attracting businesses, event organisers, delegates and tourists from all over the region, thus driving the Al Ain Convention Centre’s tremendous investment potential.

The development of Al Ain is a key objective for the Abu Dhabi Government who wish to see it become a leading cultural and commercial destination in the UAE. It is believed that this exciting development will serve to stimulate economic growth as well as business and cultural tourism.

Now entering its final master planning stage, the development displayed at Cityscape provides a vision of what the completed project may look like.

Work is scheduled to begin on the Al Ain Convention Centre later this year.

Capital Gate set to enter Guinness Book of Records as Worlds most inclined tower

As construction of Capital Gate continues in the UAE capital city, Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC), which is developing the iconic building, and RMJM, project architects, have submitted a joint application to the Guinness Book of Records to recognise the tower as the “most inclined in the world”.

Capital Gate leans westward an astonishing 18 degrees; by comparison the Leaning Tower of Pisa leans less than 4 degrees. Because of its unique posture, the tower is being constructed on top of an incredibly dense mesh of reinforced steel. The dense mesh sits above an intensive distribution of 490 piles which have been drilled 30 metres underground to accommodate the gravitational, wind and seismic pressures caused by the lean of the building.

PRESS RELEASE
Monday 26 January 2009

ADNEC begins construction on bridge to new Marina Zone

Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC) has begun the installation of a new bridge which will connect the exhibition facilities with the new Marina Zone. The installation will be completed in time for IDEX 2009 where it will play an integral part in the exhibition by providing pedestrian access to the Naval displays.

The new bridge, which has been fabricated from 600 tonnes of steel and 132 glazed panels, will be 162 metres long and will span all eight lanes of the Khaleej Al Arabi Coast Road adjacent to the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre. The unique structure was designed by internationally renowned architects, Dissing & Weitling and built by specialist Austrian bridge engineering company, Waagner Biro.

The development of this bridge is part of ADNEC’s ongoing commitment to create the world’s leading destination for exhibitions, conferences and live events. By linking the Marina Zone to the exhibition facilities ADNEC is providing a truly integrated site which will allow for indoor, outdoor and marina exhibitions. In addition, ADNEC is also providing a genuine improvement to the city by making the ADNEC Marina Zone fully accessible to pedestrians.

The Marina Zone has seen 8 months of intensive major development, including the construction of a 350 metre quay wall and the dredging of the local sea channel to a depth of 6 metres. This work will enable visiting ships to dock outside the exhibition centre for the IDEX naval exhibition; previously these had to dock 20km away from ADNEC at Port Mina Zayed.

A contra-flow will be set up on Khaleej Al Arabi Road (30th Street) during the bridge construction and subsequently to enable the creation of the IDEX outside demonstration area. IDEX 2009 takes place at ADNEC from 22 – 26 February. ADNEC has been fully supported by the local authorities and has received extensive cooperation from the Abu Dhabi traffic police, to make the bridge possible.

Looks good though.
