Wow! I didn't realize it is rising that tall already! Impressive!!! I noticed that neighborhood where Tokyo Sky Tree is being built in are kind run down neighborhood. I am wondering if that neighborhood is slated for major redevelopment?

It's just not as shiny as people think Tokyo always is, bit this is how a big part of Tokyo actually looks like. It's the old Tokyo where the normal people always have lived and worked, with many small houses and workshops. This is also the reason why there will be some redevelopments but there won't be a complete transformation of the whole neighborhood. There are just too many land and property owners, it will take years and years to buy all the plots to redevelop them. Especially with the Japanese law that protects land owners from the government or any other developer from buying up their land. The Sky Tree is being built on an old railway yard that is owned by the railway company that is now developing the tower. Therefor they didn't have a problem getting all the land needed to start construction.

Now, Rich1077 tky, I'm just being a geek here:

Judging by the angle of the skyline in that shot, was it taken from the Roppongi Hills Mori Tower, above the 30th floor?

edit: and, hey, welcome to the forum!
haha, that was fast. Yes I'm in roppongi hills above the 30th floor

Aha! I see those cranes now. What do you all think, will it be less than a month before the structure appears above the skyline?

These are valuable shots, Rich1077 tky; it's great to see this tower rise in context with the core of the city. Keep 'em coming!

Also, awesome close-ups, tommyzion!

Again, Malmö's skyscraper like trash in Tokyo. That is another German barcode development. Why do you want to become the Nordic that desperate and think all those designs are beautiful. Ask the Stockholmer what do they think about it. That's the design oriented for Italy. The Swedish design is Italian for Sweden. Now that can be a drug so I will stop. I tell you what, what Tokyo needs is the Anglo-Saxon, London Design, clean them all up. Now, it becomes offensive?

Musashi Tower sounds better in Japanese (than "Sky Tree").
634 is such a good idea.

But at the same time, not quite fancying this childish "I wanna be the tallest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" attitude

Wow, what a surprise.

And it's 100% official:

And the 2 lightning concepts for the tower also look interesting.

Slightly taller than the U/C Shanghai Tower, what a coincidence.
