I agree.

The funny thing is, it's being built in such a sleepy and traditional neighborhood. It's full of old people on bicycles and stores selling rice crackers. I think they're in for a surprise when this is finished.

Yeah, it's a quite sleepy borough, that one. Been living there and I was surprised to see small glass laboratories and groceries that close to the Sky Tree. People seemed not to care about it, anyway. the only issue I have it's about its location: one up there you have a great overwiew of the whole "Tokyo that matters", but woulnd't it be too off the beaten path? a little bit like Odaiba, an interesting place which, however, few tourist bother to visit IMHO.

Not to mention there's only one minor metro route that gets you there. Most tourists just ride the Yamanote because they can't be bothered to learn the complexities of the Tokyo subway system. Now, I personally am familiar with the Tokyo subway system so I wouldn't consider it inconvenient to go see the Sky Tree.

The tourists seem to find their way to the Tokyo Tower and Asakusa, I have no doubt that they will be able to find their way to the Sky Tree. Especially when the new connecting line between Narita and Haneda will be build.

Wow, I've been gone for a while, and this is the first thing I see going up new since I was last on here. That's a nice surprise. The progress is incredible, and I must agree, the cladding elements are quite nice looking. I like how the white inner bars behind the windows force your eyes up toward the rest of the tower (not that that would be a problem anyways). It has a strong vertical design language that I like a lot. Good Work Japan!

It's already so impressively massive compared to its surroundings... Hard to believe it's only a third of its final height.

You should look again at a map, Skytree is located just between Narihirabashi station and Oshiage station, so it meens 4 lines (Isezaki, Oshiage, Asakusa, Hanzomon) that lead to skytree.
Also be carefull on how you call the train mass transit system of Tokyo, here only the Hanzomon line is manged by Tokyo Metoro compagny, it's confusing for new tourists because many foreign people still call every lines "metro" instead of train.

Note taken, but I'm not using metro/subway/train to be very specific. I'm well aware that there several companies operating in Tokyo, both above and below ground, as well as on raised track (yurikamome). It just takes forever to type all that out, so "metro" is easier to say. The Tokyo metro refers to all of those trains, anyway, just as the Berlin metro refers to all trains above and below ground in Berlin.

Still officially 215m, but it has grown and I expect a new official height very soon.
