Uhm... Since this tower will be more than 600 meters high, I think it's totally appropriate to put it in this thread, regardless of the fact what the design is like.

They all will appear to the majority of people on our little ball floating in space as a skyscraper, but to people who are involved with scrapers understand that it's like calling a moped a motorcycle,... give me a break.

If skyscraper enthusiasts consider this a scraper, we should count the KTHI-TV mast (630 meters) in Traill County, North Dakota as the tallest building on earth now.

Aleron, take it from a person who lives in the country who invented skyscrapers, this is not a skyscraper. They should make an antenna/TV/Radio thread.

I understand ur point of view, but it's still okey to put this here IMO. That mast thing u said is half true, but this is so much more. U can actually get in this one, unlike to some mast u mentioned. To me that's the thing that makes the difference between this and some random mast. And the reason I think this way, is that the hight is something I can't really put into perspective since the highest structure I've ever seen irl, is the Eiffel tower.

And btw, it's Alweron, not Aleron

@JACK NAPIER
Indeed it's a TV tower not a skyscraper.

But that doesn't mean that this thread shouldn't be here, the construction will be as interesting as all the supertall skyscrapers going up right now. And Tokyo is not in competition with any other city, so there's no cheating going on.

And so what if they call it the tallest, it just sounds more sexy in the proposals and only some skyscraper fetishist actually care about it. We know it won't be tallest and that's all we need to know.

I agree we should acknowledge this huge structure, but TV/Radio tower should have their own forum/threads.

sorry ZZ-II

These towers can hold themselves up. Masts don't have enough structural support so they need wires to hold them up.

Why on earth isn't it a skyscraper? Because it doesn't have floors? Who is rationalising this nonsense? It is tall as though it appears to be scraping the sky therefore it IS a skyscraper. Since you live in the U.S. the skyscraper was invented in Chicago. It was 12 storeys tall. In Toronto there is a building 480 ft which is regarded as a skyscraper. A half a block away from this building is a structure that rises 1815 ft or 553m. What you are saying is that structure isn't a skyscraper?

Just that differences?

I thought its also because Tower themselves are able to contain some inhabitable floors or plaform where mast themselves cannot.

Why does it even matter, you can choose whether or not to follow the progress of this tower. Would it make any difference if the 5 or 6 observation/TV towers in the supertall section were moved to tehre own little part of teh forums?? Does it matter at all, i mean the supertall forum is hardly packed as it is.

His opinion is that an observation tower does not scrape the sky. When HIS country invented the skyscraper observation and telecommunications towers came later. Designs changed.

The Tokyo Sumida Tower is every bit a skyscraper as any building that exist in Jack Napier's country. Take it from me use your common sense and don't listen to anybody pretending to be an ambassador.
