If you mean if it's already December 31 in Tokyo then the answer is yes.

But first....

Somehow I can't read this blog in a normal way anyway, but thanks to the internets...

Work continues on Monday 2010/01/04, starting straight away on the new January target of 290m.

With this speed they could already reach the 333m (Tokyo Tower) early March, unless they slow down to start on the 1st viewing platform.

If YES JAPAN insists on spreading his racist, nationalistic, nonsensical drivel, he could at least work on his English.

I can't believe I still can't see this from the top floor of my apartment building. There must be a building blocking it, but I don't know which one. Ah well.

Thanks as usual for all the updates (and for the crazy LOLs on the previous page).
あけましておめでとうございます and Happy New Year to all.

The 22 is not the day but the year.

2010 is Heisei 22 on the Japanese imperial Calendar and will officially start on January 8th.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heisei_period

Not that you have to wait much longer for the tower to be a supertall, that will happen in February.

Thank you for the clarification.

Was other locations ever metioned with this tower? Why is Sumida the best location, isn't most of the city to the south and west?
I don't think it's a bad place/loction, I just want to know how the Wards of Tokyo make these kind of decisions, is it politics or just geography?

Sorry for my poor knowledge of Tokyo.
I know it's very vain but I'm quoting my own self since no one paid attention the first time.
Help anyone?

Second candidate location was in Saitama Shintoshin in Saitama City (immediately north of Tōkyō). There were other bids for locations in Nerima Ward (inside Toshimaen, a theme park), Toshima Ward (near Sunshine City in Higashi-Ikebukuro), Taitō Ward (near Asakusa), Adachi Ward (inside Toneri Park), and Chiyoda Ward (in Akihabara).

Can't answer from a technological viewpoint (although I imagine the fact that there's fewer tall buildings around it is a good thing), but the following likely helped:
  • The site is very large and empty.
  • The railway already owned the land and was willing to pump a lot of money into the development.
  • Transport access is reasonably good. Even though it's not really in the central part of Tōkyō, two subway lines, the Tōbu Line, and the Keisei Line pass by the site.
  • Potential to capitalize on tourism. It's near Asakusa and has strong shitamachi tradition.
  • Citizen support
