Big parts of Tokyo actually look like it got stuck in the 80s, it's not that strange that you get that feeling.

01/11 Blog round-up #1

There was no official height announcement today but they did start on the next level.

Another interesting development on the building site is that they've started installing a tower crane for the office tower / podium building on the East side of the site.

This is really the start of the construction of all the buildings around the Sky Tree, making it a very busy building site. I will of course also post construction pictures for this part of the project that I find on the Japanese web-logs.

More pictures.

Is that the real lights that is installed on the sides, or is it just temporarily when it's U/C. It looks very "light" for a light that is going to illuminate such a large building. This tower should be at least as visible as Tokyo Tower is, if not more(I hope).

Those are indeed temporary lights, it will look something like this when it's finished.

Thanks for the quick response..The second look the best, but it would be cool if both could be used, maybe at
different times, one for summer and on for winter.
One of the things I like about Tokyo is the scale of the urban area it reilly looks like
a never ending city on some pics.
But it's not, there is an end to the built up area, how far from TST could you find rural environments.?? That is reilly my only "issue" with TST, it feel like it's too far from the center of the Kanto-metropolis.
I found this video on YT and it looks very promising, 360 veiw at 2:18. Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpohFa_47ag
I hope it turn out like this video from So Paulo(or better). Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a99jU...eature=related

wow, that is nice. I like the look of the spire in the illustrated cover. Look forward to the real thing when they finish.

Those lighting scheme renderings are awesome. I wish more developers would give that kind of insight into what their projects will look like at night.

don't worry, the Sky Tree is still only a short subway ride away from all the main centers of Tokyo. It's so big can see it well from most places, unless there's another tall building blocking your view.

(If you want to see rural, go west or north of Tokyo, and travel a long time before you see it.)

One thing is for certain, this is going to make a great prop for a future Godzilla movie.

I do not want nature when in Tokyo, I can do nature at other places.
My question was more like how far to the end of the built up area
is it on the northern/eastern side of the tower.
When you are up in this tower you want to feel like you are surrounded
360 by the city, so if you are close to any rural areas it will kinda ruin that feeling, NO??

Even at 450m you'll be surrounded by a concrete, stell and wood sea
Well, Skytree is just a little bit on the right from the metropolis gravity point, but still closer to the main centers than DisneyLand for exemple (and unlike it, Skytree is in Tokyo Prefecture)

You don't have any clue just how huge the Greater Tokyo area is, do you?

New Official Height:

264m

www.tokyo-skytree.jp/

It's dated 2010/01/08, so it's the height from before they started at the new level, in other words it's already outdated.

01/12 Blog Round-up

The tower crane for the office tower takes shape.

The 1st tower crane on the tower also climbed today.

ATT could use this tower to expand their 3G coverage.

Bigger than Mt Fuji? Can't help but look at this majestic mountain looming over Tokyo metro.
