It could be a concrete plant right now on the site?

Anyway, good to see things happening, although we still only see a fence.

I'm going to visit my brother in Tokyo in May... too bad this building is not completed or even close. It would be amazing to view once completed.

even tho a supertall building is more impressive it doesnt affect that a supertall freestanding tower is also very impressive.

another tv tower taller than TT might be needed but it could also take 70% of the visitors away from the old one wich would be sad (Tokyo Tower is a world famous landmark)

well...i guess i probably repeated what other ppl said here (didnt read all)

. i think it will have a big impact in the skyline, but a great. Tokyo is extreme big, so i don't think it can destroy the skyline

It's probably just digital communications and observation decks. Also shown on the rendering may be two highrise office blocks.

The Sumida Tower or the Shin Tokyo Tower will get a different name when it's completed and the public can vote for the final name:
http://tower-naming.jp/

People can choose between:

- 「東京EDOタワー」 (Tokyo EDO Tower) (EDO is the old name of Tokyo)
(Tokyo Sky Tree)
(Mirai Tower) (translation: future tower)
(Yumemi Yagura) (translation: to dream tower)
(Rising East Tower)
(Rising Tower)

Everybody can vote from 2008/04/01 until 2008/05/30 via the internet, the phone or with a postcard. People living in Japan can also win some nice prices.

btw:
If everything goes to plan the construction of the tower will start in July.

The Eifel tower was a glorified exhibit at the worlds fair, and now it is a regarded as a pivitol step in humanity's architectural progression. I dont have any problem with the design, why not adorn the ifrastructure of a society with ebelishments that reflect that culture ...
