No. Even the slightest vibration from a large truck or a train rolling by could possibly be enough to tumble the whole tower. I've heard people in nearby houses have begun to move farther away, for fear of being crushed. It's quite surprising that the government hasn't intervened yet, but what can you do?

No, they actually intentionally built it to be structurally weak so that it will collapse in the event of a major earthquake. It all has to do with property values and Mob money, very complicated stuff.

No actually you are right. They ARE building it for fun. What else would it built for when it's just an observation tower? Unless there would be residential floors.......... am I rite? am i rite?

Not too long to go now before TST hits that magical 300m mark! Very impressed by the progress!

Plus the structure design is very clear (wich is an important point for engineers) you can easily see where the loads are distributed from the collumns and bracing parts to the ground.
Also each part that develops in the center to surround the core act like floors in a conventional building (renforcing the structure against horizontal loads).
The main point is that it is built in a very stiff way (like all the highrises in Japan, it's most expensive but the damages will be significantly reduce in case of a big earthquake) just take a look at pictures of the steel column parts prepared in factory (many pages before) the thickness of steel is just impressive, that's why I'm sure the stiffness of the whole structure is very important, in case of an earthquake it's reaction would be vibrating instead of balancing.
And concerning the core, I'm not sure but I don't think it has any structural purpose, it is freestanding but need the surrounding structure to resist horizontal loads (like wind)

Hope it was clear and accurate enough.

ps: I'm not an engineer but Architecture student, and I do have some lectures conducted by Engineering professors who are researching on earthquake issues.
I think architects designed the structure to make it as flexible as possible in case of an earthquake (and that is why the tower is a 100% steel structure).

We should hear some more info on the tower's sustainbility to earthquakes, later on. All OT around the world should have the purpose to withstand such nearby EQs.

Actually, no. It's a broadcast tower first and foremost.

Ahh! No! Come on people, have a heart! Save those kittens! XD
