They will start on Wednesday.

No official height change on Monday, my guess that they will change it after they put up another core up on top of the current level. They can make a big happening out of it because it will pass the Tokyo Tower when that happens.

From my understanding of what you've explained before is that they've completed the six levels that were shorter than the levels below and then they added two more even shorter levels at the same time on top of those. So I've been thinking that they've reached the base of the first observation deck and we shouldn't be seeing anymore height around the outside levels until the observation deck is constructed. So if they add another core level does that mean it would actually contain the entrance for the observation deck? I hope my question makes sense. Thanks.

Not yet, on the next 2 levels the steel will start to go outwards, but the 1st floor of the pod won't even be reached yet.

This should make everything clear (only the blue line is my own work).

tokyo2ndtower.cocolog-nifty.com/blog/

The red line is the border between the 6 smaller levels and the tiny levels right under the 1st pod. The blue line is the current height and the pink line is the 1st floor of the pod.

plus the picture of my Sky Tree calendar.

The steel body continues to go up even in the 1st pod, I don't think it will stop until the pod is finished. And with the next height increase we will see the 1st steel that will go outwards for the pod but it won't reach the 1st of the 7 floors of the pod. We need another height addition on top of the next one to reach the 1st floor. And from what I see on the drawings I presume that the main entrance to the observation deck is at the 3rd floor, if they continuing with 2 levels at once that will be even a height addition later.

But it's a bit unclear how everything from now, will they continue with the core and outerbody first before they start at the pod, or will it go up all at the same time. We only really know that the pod will be finished this summer and that the core and tower body will only start to grow again after the pod is finished with a interesting new tower crane arrangement.

hey i just love this tower. I think this will really reinvent Tokyo and boost its image even more.. With China booming from what I've been hearing Japan is losing its edge, and I think this will really bring some magic back to Tokyo.. This tower really makes it look like the Paris of the East, well so does Shanghai.. anyways love this tower and I have a question... Will this replace the existing Tokyo Tower!

In terms of broadcasting communications like radio or TV waves, and the purpose of building the Skytree is because the Tokyo Tower isnt high enough to broadcast terrestrial digital waves and being surrounded by highrises or skyscrapers near it.

The SkyTree is build far from the CBD and it will be able to broadcast communication waves more efficiently because the area where it is being build is not as dense as the area where Tokyo Tower is.

What do you mean by organic? Tokyo is generally divided in 2 areas. The poorer Shitamachi (where this tower is located) and the richer Yamanote (this is just historically but the looks of each area still show this history).

the development patterns are quite erratic, no grid system.

^ The area directly south of the Sky Tree happens to have an almost perfect grid system. Other areas have a far more organic pattern, but Tokyo is an old city and even after being destroyed a couple of times they still kept the old layout of the city during the reconstructions.

I don't know about you, but that's part of what I like about Tokyo. It's the largest city in the world and also the cleanest safest and yet it's also chaotic at the same time.
