Culwulla, if you make the diagram for May soon. I have making a list off so many as possible mega-talls coming up on skycrapercity. I think there are still more crapers (to come) in China end the rest of the world. But not all of them are now U/C or Prep, some of them are Pro.

I know nothing about Japanese construction and land use law... I'm curious about the land use clause where it states that the project may be used for miscellaneous schools (各種学校)... Does that mean they have schools that want to lease spaces, or is that merely one of the uses the site is zoned for?

Also, 32 storeys, with 3 underground? There must be a lot of money in the telecom tower aspect of the project for this to be profitable.

Well, considering that the government is forcing the nation to switch to digital I don't think it matters whether its profitable or not. That is to say, it has to be done. But to make it profitable it seems they are adding all the shops/observation decks/hotels/etc.

I'm sure profit matters to the company that is funding the project It's interesting - I haven't been to Tokyo in a decade, and I'm not exactly sure where the Sumida ward is, but I'm pretty sure this isn't one of the busier parts of the city. Adding tourism elements to the tower will certainly help generate revenue, but it's not as if this tower is in one of the heavily-trafficked areas like Shibuya or Ginza.

I guess the lack of density in the area makes a tower with more rentable floor-space less feasible. I was surprised that such a tall building only has 32 occupiable floors above ground.

Well, yeah. I'm just speculating really. I don't know what exactly is supposed to make the tower profitable. Maybe just leasing space on it to broadcast is enough? Or however that sort of thing works.

this was posted by momo1435.
ive scaled it and its huge. 71m across base with 80m high arch.
the first turret is a whopping 60m diametre and observation ring is 38m dia.
i thought the 471m height maybe base of antenna above the 450m disc but it measures at 508m.?

Depending on when you were a kid, Cuwulla :-).... either not many 1,000 footers were being constructed at the time or proposed. Are we talking pre-sears/world trade center era or post? Sorry to ask!
