i did look at the render. it's still ugly. it looks like one massive huge scaffolding. at least the toronto cn tower and seattle space needle are both elegant structures that looks like there's design to it. this tokyo thing looks like a huge mish-mush of criss-crossing structural brackets used in construction scaffolding. it's awful!!!!

Agree that the CN Tower in Toronto is a great masterpiece. Visited it countless times. But to say that the Tokyo sky tree is nothing but criss-cross brackets used in scaffolding would be injustice to the tower and it's designers.

Wow that is tall, it overshadows its surroundings. How do they plan on getting the cranes off the roof? That has always boggled my mind.

2 can be done by the 3rd, which on its turn could be taken down by a new, much smaller crane on top, which can be taken down by a large helicopter ?

amazing pictures.

Or they will just take it down using the tower's elevator piece by piece.

Most likely is that they lift a small crane up for the last tower crane that can be lowered down in pieces via the elevator.

Sky Tree's on television a lot. Various companies seem to be proud to take their share. Yesterday I saw a commercial from Panasonic who're gonna do the lighting. Toshiba's gonna do the elevators (they also built the elevators of Taipei 101). This tower's quickly becoming famous really fast! I'm sure they'll make tons of money on the opening months.

Not for the pod but for the parts of the tower above the pod, it's because of the maximum height these cranes can lift therefor they use the 1st pod as a platform for the parts to be lifted even higher.

The weather didn't get better today, you couldn't see it from pretty close by. But they still worked on the 1st pod adding more steel again. The real 24/7 skytree watchers found a little gap in the clouds to print it onto their SD cards.

05/24 blog update #2

tokyo2ndtower.cocolog-nifty.com/blog/

And the official height also changed today to:

389m

http://www.tokyo-skytree.jp/

Together with the August diagram a new 3 months schedule has been put onto the message boards around the sites.

Main points:
- the pod will be finished early July
- the new crane will be put up right after that
- it will grow to 440m
- work on the east and west podium buildings will continue.

Great information!

You wrote "new crane", not cranes, because second one will be lowered onto pod from tower top. Is it right? Because in previous diagram I see two cranes on pod.

Thanks in advance for answer!
