Nice pictures,

I can only add some Youtube construction video's by 1 of my subscriptions.

I'm getting back to Tokyo on Thursday, can't wait to see it for real again and not just in the adds in the Osaka metro or in the idol magazine I bought with a nice girl posing in front of the tower.

I like Tokyo and Japan - but this must be about the ugliest thing to ever be stuck in a city. It looks like a white pylon, or spiders nest - but without that's delicate beauty. There's way too much steel. It doesn't have the elegance of the Tokyo Tower, it's out of proportion, it's just horrible

Inside the the SkyJuster there is a heavy disk that is rotating very fast to create a gyroscope effect. It's used to prevent that loads when lifted up onto the tower get spinning because of the wind effect the tower creates.

Hi google.
I would guess you don't like the guangzhou tower either ...
I personally think both are fantastic projects. Awesome engineering works of art.
We will have to agree to disagree I guess.

Great progress on the pod. I've been watching this and saving pics from the start. Out of all the projects I watch I have to say the pace of this project is nothing short of amazing.

I think that one of the reasons this is so great to watch get built is the speed that it is going up, it makes the whole even more interesting!!

Yep the speed is astonishing, like watching the Empire State Building being built (that was built in a year and a half) and this has shot up 50m in <2 months I reckon. From a pure engineering point of view and Japanese efficiency it's amazing - but it just looks wrong.
For one I'd prefer to see a building wrapped around it. Make decent use of all that steel and concrete (the core is concrete right - I forget). Make it a spherical glass and steel building with just a TV mast on the top - let it be a gleaming glass and steel edifice not just what's really a giant steel TV mast.

It's a lot less expensive to build this, than a 'gleaming glass and steel' real building. For this lower investment they get an icon, fast.

Yes there are no floors in 90% of this tower, which means no plumbing, electrical, drywall, HVAC, etc. SAVES A TON OF TIME AND MONEY.

I think it's smart.

Besides if they really needed 600m+ high tv mast, they would have to build 600m+ skyscraper. In Tokyo which is highly threatened by earthquaqe, engineering and constructing such a tower would be the most expensive for all supertalls ever build.

Especially the earthquake risk plays a big role here, the tower body is the main protection against the earthquakes although it has some mass dampers in the core walls. All the steel is needed to make it strong in case of the big one or a strong for that matter.

Another thing is that the location was chosen because it was possible to start as quickly as possible in Japan for the construction. And an huge office tower on this location is just not possible, there will be a 160m high office tower, but that is just a replacement for the old Tobu Railway HQ that has been demolished for the construction of the whole complex. More office space is just not needed on this location in Tokyo, economically and from an urban planning point of view.

And it's Tokyo baby, even if it's just a steel tower it still looks good anyway.
