I think it's very beautiful. Very simple and impressive form. This is how the structure becomes an architecture. Tadao Ando ist the master! But what is actually his participation in this project? How about Nikken Sekkei?

It's very impressive- but not beautiful. The design is just functional- nothing special or original.

It still has over 200m to go, so I doubt it will be topped off by the end of this year. Maybe next year?

The steel frame will be topped out at just under 500m at the end of the year, the whole 634m will be reached next year.

07/10 quick block update:

the 2nd crane has been put up on the crane.

The office tower is also growing.

The four cranes are now complete !

My parents are planning a visit to Tokyo next year -by April- and they know already (because of me) about the Tokyo Sky Tree. Im assuming it might be topped out around that date... hope so.

A wonderful structure. A fine trophy for the great city of Tokyo.

Crane position..

Hello everyone..

I though the 2 cranes on the Observation pod were going to be directly opposite to each other?

I don't think so. First they have to replace the two cranes, which stay now in the core. One on the pod, one out from the core. Then the tower will growing over 500m.

The 4 cranes that will be used for the tower to grow to 495m, the roof of the steel frame will all be on the roof of the pod. The last 2 cranes will be moved in the coming week(s) and then the tower can start to grow again. Out of the 4 cranes only 2 will grow to the top of the steel frame.

A couple of pictures from yesterday (07/10).

I see... Yeah I like this museum too. As far as I know there's a complicated roof structure. Maybe that's the part by Nikken Sekkei? I'm not sure! But I know, that the architectural concept and the whole design was made by Tadao Ando's office.

The situation with the Sky Tree is of course quite different.

Why it's not beautiful? I mean, we have to look for a beauty in that framework structure. The whole composition is pretty good! It's not so easy to reach an expression like that, which is in some way pure architectural. It happens often, that an architecture of a building is one and a structure is the other thing. This is not the case here. And after all in my opinion the design is very original. Like I wrote it before, the architecture and the structure become one. This is very rarely in the world of that kind of buildings. It follows the old line and continues the typical tower-design but at the same time shows, how can we make it different. It's development! I think this tower is much better than Guangzhou Tower, which is actually an nice and interesting experiment, but it only uses the possibilities but doesn't create any possibilities. And this language of creation used in the Sky Tree is much closer to me, than that in Guangzhou Tower. It's just very clear!

Sorry for my english.

precarious!

Amazing, yes - I just can't believe how they perch those 2 outer cranes so far out on top of the pod. The stress on the structure when they sit out there must be immense, never-mind when they even start lifting?
