I used to live in Toronto & thought the CN Tower was the most massive thing I'd ever seen. Amazing that this one is almost as tall.

The two taller cranes will now have to come down in order to build the second pod? Or will they continue up to 'roof' level, then be taken down?

That's exactly what I was wondering. I have a feeling that they'll continue up to the roof level and then lower the cranes in order to construct the second pod because it appears that the cranes at their present height might be so close to the structure that the second pod would stick out beyond where they're located. Since I am just guessing I'd be interested in hearing from someone like Momo1435 who actually know what they're talking about. In any case it appears that this structure is quickly going to reach the point where the spire will be uplifted from the center which will be very exciting to watch. This has been one of the most interesting constructions that I've seen and it's certainly showcased the engineering and technical abilities of Japan.

I believe that the 2 cranes will just grow with the tower up to 495m and stay there until they are dismantled when they aren't needed anymore. The 2nd pod isn't as big as the first one, it will fit between the tower and the crane mast. But it might be so tight that they won't be able to simply lower the cranes again to the 1st pod.

Someone that has access to the tower recently posted some pictures on a Japanese forum, in .

Damn, this thing is going up fast. And looks beautiful too.

Good to see that unlike a lot of other developed countries, Japan hasn't lost its ability to build things quickly and efficiently.

Speaking of building things, go to Japan forum (click link in my signature) and go to the projects/construction subforum. I think you would be amazed just how much Japan is building, and how fast too.

Always enjoy your updates

Interesting to note that Ostankino Tower, which I have seen in person, still holds it's own (relatively speaking) after 43 years.
