09/18 blog round-up

morning

The tower grew again up to around 470m.

The netting around the 1st pod is also slowly being removed.

The growth means that the tower came above the 2nd pod. From now on up to 495m there won't be a solid core with an outside steel frame anymore. It will just be a steel frame with tubes that have a smaller diameter then the ones before. There will of course be room for the spire to be jacked/hoisted up.

The next 25 meters could go very fast.

Those are new tower parts.

The spire is already being assembled inside of the core, it's already being jacked up to make it. It could be possible that the top of the spire will come up out of the tower before the 2nd pod is finished, but the pod will be finished long before the 634m is reached.

Yes, it does look like picture from another planet!

Am sure they are ahead of schedule - no typhoons struck here yet and with season almost over it has been amazing good weather and forecast is for it to continue that way ...

Those have to be some of the tallest cranes in the world. I don't mean the total height, building included, I mean the crane bases themselves. Imagine being the first person each day to have to climb into the operators seat.

it kinda looks like it stands in the middle of nowhere. are no relatively tall skyscrapers near yet? in the making, or planned ones maybe?

Ok, here's a new question: You can see Mt. Fuji from Tokyo, but can you see the TST from Mt. Fuji? (on a very clear day)

I think that Tokyo is far away from the fast-growing chinese cities. The skyline of Tokyo is not as impressive as the others, and very difuse... spread all around the city. And this tower, in my opinion, won't help to put the city in a better situation.
It's massive in comparison with the surrounding area, which is not a fault of the tower itself, but I think that with another design, and materials, it'd be a much more interesting building.

i really like this tower alot. tokyo has a lot of skyscrapers, but nothing that raises over the 250 mark. this tower will probably define the skyline like the tower in toronto does unless its very far away from the city center, since tokyo is so giant and huge in dimensions that most likely the tower wont be that clearly from every point of the city if its much outside. correct me if im wrong though, never been to tokyo

This is the kind of comment one can easily make by watching pictures or statistics. I guess from this comment that you haven't been to Tokyo and other big Chinese cities like Shanghai for example.

Because yes, Tokyo's skyscrappers are not the most astonishing ones, not really new, not really tall. China is for sure much more impressive if comparing statistics. But from a close look, if you are yourself walking in Tokyo you would immediately understand that the urban development of Tokyo is just the most advanced in this world and that China's cities can't compete with it. It is just blowing you away. The reason is the density. A walk in Shinjuku is much more impressive than a walk in Juijiazui even if the buildings there are about twice as tall as in the first one.

Tokyo is very dense. But it lacks a single donwnton, it has many smaller ones, so its skycrappers are dispersed.
