Awesome height...but the design is nothing special. I prefer the Tokyo Tower over this.

I like it...but there's something almost too stiff about it.

Maybe you're thinking about how Japan is sucking in the pacific plate every minute and earthquakes happen, surely the tower must feel stiff when thinking that.

People have to know that any buildings tallker than 200m is affected by wind more than earthquake...

EARTHQUAKE IS NO LONGER THE REASON FOR NOT BUILDING SKYSCRAPERS!!!
It became so around 1960's. Now it's purely down to economics.

Thats pretty scary to think about.
It's like something out of the film "Sink of Japan"

I like this tower though. Needs some supertalls around it.

I really like the looks of this one. Looking forward to this, personally I think it looks great for Tokyo. How come it's so far from the main skyline, though?

Although the height is impressive, the look of the building, to me, is not.

Tadao Ando has designed many elegant and excellent building, but I don't think this one quite lives up to the rest of his ouvre, architecturally speaking. Overtly obvious in programme, it is suprisingly awkward and graceless looking as a building.

It's as if it has borrowed the layout of the CN Tower, and will be trying to build it using the structural weave of the tower in Guangzhou. Unfortunately, it's lacking any of the architectural curves, subtleties or 'freshness' of those designs.

I think they should go back to the drawing board with this one, and come up with something truly interesting and new, in honour of it's height, and the influence it will have on the skyline of the excellent city it is in.

I see your point, but how much does doing so cost? If there is a significant profit expected from changing to more aesthetic designs, they might do it. But the main revenue from this tower is from broadcasting & telecommunications and appears like tourism/landmark revenue is marginal.

But one good news is, the main developer is aiming to use this tower to catalyze the redevelopment of nearby area and investors are already flocking in. Quite likely that we get a cluster of good buildings nearby in the near future.

Maybe using the same technology that allows Taipei 101 to withstand earthquakes and typhoons Tokyo will get its first supertall building as part of that

This tower is cheap. It is 65 billion yen.
Maintenance and repairs of Tokyo metropolitan government are 130 billion yen.
I think this tower to be going to be dismantled in the future.

What is it with people misspelling Taipei 101, it happens more than it doesn't. Just puzzles me.
