The first post of the article needs to be corrected. While the title mentions the height of the tower as 634m, the post content reads 610m.

You go around making ridiculous claims in ALL CAPS and don't want people to judge you? Right...

Some very important news.

The official character for the Tokyo Sky Tree has been introduced to the public.

Everybody, please allow me to introduce...

Sorakara-chan
「ソラカラちゃん」

Her own website.
http://www.sorakara-chan.jp/

And her weblog
http://ameblo.jp/sorakara-chan/

And she has 2 friends.

Teppenpen & Sukobururu
「テッペンペン」&「スコブルブル」

And I guess every will be wondering what happened to Oshinarikun...

Well let me tell you, he's the official character for the shopping streets around the Sky Tree and not for the tower itself. He's alive and kicking being very active promoting Oshiage and Narihirabashi. And even though he's a bit sad that he didn't win the Japan Character Popularity Contest 2010 he's still very happy that he has a new Sky Tree friend.

It's not the most beautiful building in the world but it's not ugly either, it's just more functional than most of the current U/C supertalls, it will become an icon just because of its height and location.

Not as disturbing as those Japanese game shows, that's for sure.

You mean like Takeshis Castle on challenge TV? I like them and they are not disturbing, in fact I find them quite entertaining. If you mean something else, nevermind.

There was a manga-style drawing I saw a few months ago - that was more mature and elegant, would have liked to see her as the official 'mascot' or emblem for the Tokyo Sky Tree.

I think this tower has a ver very very simple design... but the main characteristic of this is the structure and the material that is used... there are not buildings constructed with that "cylinders" (I think only Guanghzou TV Tower and other few buildings)...

I think thats the attractive of the design in the tower.

And altoght it's not as beautiful like a Calatrava's design... it's not so bad at all I think...

I guess you're unaware of the challenges which must be faced with designing a 634 meters tall tower on a highly earthquake-prone land, aren't you?

And, by the way, this is a communication tower and an observation point, more or less like the Guangzhou tower or the Tour Eiffel. They pretty much look alike, as they're made of steel and concrete (well, the Tour mainly steel). I think it'd be quite hard to made such a tower out of bamboo sticks, don't you agree?

I'm sure there are more pieces added to the second pod. Would love to see them.

PROGRESSO TECNOLOGICO NON CORRISPONDE AD ARCHITETTURA!
QUI NON C'è UN BEL NULLA DI POETICO!
POI... "like the Guangzhou tower or the Tour Eiffel. They pretty much look alike" se addirittura mi confondi una superficie rigata come la torre di GZ cn la torre eiffel.. siamo freschi!!!

hola!

Tokyo Sky Tree is a great construction like Eiffel Tower was in the 19th century. It's much better than the old Tokyo Tower which was a worse version of Eiffel Tower for me.
And after all it must be built because Tokyo needs new tower for sending digital TV signal.
