Just to be clear, it's not the spire that being hoisted up from out of the core. The schedule is very clear and that will only happen from the 2nd half of December.

It's the top of the spire that has now been assembled on top of the tower, the spire will start to push it up when it starts to come up out of the core. This parts were all lifted up to the top by the cranes.

Such a simple structure considering the whole design, but the individual pieces are SO complex! I wonder how they made the Eiffel tower witout computers!

That is really an interesting question! Hope someone can answer it...But i doubt it. I don't think you can climb spontaneous the whole mountain just to look around and take a picture of the Sky Tree

I looked on Bing Maps and the distance from the TST to Mt. Fuji is about 60 miles. On the absolute clearest day, with a very strong camera lens, you might be able to see it.

Great news! Awesome progress! I follow this thread pretty often, but still it amazes me day-by-day. I'll be in Japan for three weeks in June (9th-30th). Any chance of finishing it or at least the observation deck by that deadline?

On the official page you see this two dates:

December 2011
(Scheduled) Construction completion

Spring 2012
(Scheduled) Grand opening

So maybe you should delay your visit to Japan. Thats why i dont want to visit it until 2013-2014 as i really want to go on the top of the Sky Tree
Of course i dont know if the two dates are still actual. Lets wait until someone is posting about it.

Those 2 are still the the scheduled completion and opening dates. And it doesn't look like there have any big delays that could push them back. Then there's the gap between the completion and the opening that could always be used in the case of any delays, the opening date is pretty solid if there won't any big problems.

Thanx venom & Momo1435!

Sadly no can do...
I can delay it with maybe a week or two. And only because I just realized the official climbing season at Mt Fuji starts on the 1st of July.

Great updates BTW, respect from the other side of the world!

I will be in Tokyo on March 24 2011, I am hoping at least most, or all of the antenna has been raised by then!

Does anyone know how long it will take to raise the antenna?

The tallest structure I have ever visited was the CN Tower at 553 m - I hope the Sky Tree's height will surpass that when I am there.
