The tower would be an awesome setting for an action film right now. With Jason Statham.

The old design looks so fragile compared to the current design, no wonder it survived the all the safety challenges for this tower.

02/03 blog round-up:

They started on a next level of antennas. They must have raised the spire to do this, just not with 10 meters like before. The antennas are also installed a bit differently.

Yes it appears those are a different type of antennas with regard to the ones installed before (until now) to the upper levels of the tower.

...and most likely overtaking it, because Abraj Al-Bait has already reached the observation pod level right beneath the crescent, while Tokyo Sky Tree can do much faster with more antennae segments, I think

So this is over all the 3rd tallest free standing structure now, after Burj Khalifa and Canton Tower. I wonder if the name will be changed in the end, like for those two... what about "Japan Tower" (just ignoring the existing one in Frankfurt)?

Tokyo Sky Tree is supposed to be its final name, and will most likely remain that. It already had its name changed from the temporary "Sumida Tower."

The name was even chosen in a public vote.

The people could choose from the following names.

(Tokyo EDO Tower) (EDO is the old name of Tokyo)
(Tokyo Sky Tree)
(Mirai Tower) (translation: future tower)
(Yumemi Yagura) (translation: to dream tower)
(Rising East Tower)
(Rising Tower)

And recently the whole project was named "Tokyo Sky Tree Town". They could surprise us all with a new name or even with some extra meters but I don't think that will happen.

btw, the elevators will be from Toshiba. In 50 seconds they will reach the 1st observation pod at 350m, the max speed is 600m per minute (10m per second).
