the center column vibration control design proved to be a great asset in this earthquake ! it seams that there is no worries about the sky tree falling in a great quake in the future, it may be demolished before japan sees another 9.0 temblor.

Would not speak too soon, have had M6 earthquakes close to Chiba last 3 night in a row. 3 on the Japanese scale in Tokyo. Kanto is still quite active, the M9 might be just the beginning of a unsettled period of tremors here. There have been almost 550 aftershocks in last 6 days.

they dont need to continue construction, because the power they would use for the towers conctruction is more important for other things to be powered. like elctrical heaters, fridges in stores thzat still have food, the control towers at the airports and so on.

Without any ceremony the tower has been topped out this afternoon.

And the actual topping out, according to the media happened at 13:34, almost an hour ago.

That makes the current height:

634m

Finally! I hope there will be a great ignauration ceremony or something like that, something to remember all japanese people and the entire world that japan is capable of getting over this tragedy!

Wow, topped out with no ceremony or anything. Then again it's really not "done" as someone stated earlier it's not gonna open till way later this year. What kind of ceremony could there be for a closed tower anyway? None of the stuff would be open to the public at all.

Amazing, even though many aftershocks and rolling blackouts in some areas of Tokyo they have continued to work. A testament to the resolve and work ethic of the people here.

Great news on the topping out! I was always hoping the Sky Tree would top out before my Tokyo trip (which was scheduled for next Thursday) but I've now postponed it.
