What puzzles me more is the 3D Ball Point, what is that??

Anyway,

06/18 Blog round-up

Due to bad weather there weren't to many pictures updates for the initial lowering of the South crane. So now there are 3 low cranes left on the tower.

Early morning

later on the day..

In other news,

The 160m high Sky Tree East Tower, the new office building next to the tower turns out to be just 158m. 2 meters less for Tokyo's overall skyline.

Do they plan on removing the black nets covering the top of the tower?

I was so hoping to be able to see this flying into Narita, but it seems like even if I could, the weather won't cooperate.

Judging by the distance from Tokyo I don't think any approach to Narita comes close enough to the city to have a good view of the Sky Tree. I always came in directly from the north, the first view of Tokyo was always from the train.

And weather wise it's not a good time to visit right now, the rain season doesn't seem to show any mercy for Tokyo this year.

They should put a few tables and chairs on top the spire. I bet they'd have a line of people willing to spend a hundred thousand yen on lunch to impress someone.
Of course, if they don't have any mechanical lift, that spire would be a heck of a climb.

The haneda airport has international flights now. I'm sure flying into there you can see it.

The problem is that that those flights come in and leave late at night or very early in the morning. Even though the sun rises very early in Japan it's still only possible to see it during the summer in the morning. And for the winter I don't think the lights will be still on between midnight and 6 AM.

It's probably is, it's just that with everything being 3d nowadays you expect something more.

Here's a compilation of more Sky Tree goodies:

Sky Tree shaped water bottles.

Stuffed Sky Tree's, with or without fans.

Tokyo 3D puzzle (another 3D item) with the Sky Tree.

Next to the Star Wars merchandise the Sky Tree air refresher/moisturizer.

Wow. I don't think I've ever seen such an incredible variety of merchandise associated with a single structure- not even the Empire State Building! The Japanese people are into this tower!

I don't like the skinny part of the spire. Will they correct this?

Even the cranes couldn't be safe of this merchandising typhoon.

I got the Bandai Model, its quite nice one.

As for view of Sky Tree arriving from the air - I could see it on the northern approach to Narita - it wasn't the clearest day either, the tree wasn't full height so I was pleasantly surprised.

As for Haneda, all flights departing from there going to Korea / China pass close to the tree as they skirt Disneyland / Urayasu and turn left to head directly west. Flights to Hokkaido / Sendai also pass close to the Tree as they head north. The best arrival would be to runway 22 or 16L.

Plane geek out

I'm surprised that it was visible from Narita, I guess you have to know where to look to see it.
