Tokyo Sky Tree book honors tower's builders
Kyodo
Work is under way on a picture book that will show how workers of various types helped build the Tokyo Sky Tree, the world's tallest self-standing tower, which is scheduled to open to visitors next May in Sumida Ward.

The book, tentatively titled "Tokyo Sky Tree wo Tsukuru" ("Creating Tokyo Sky Tree"), will be published next spring and edited for both children and adults, according to its publisher, Bronze Publishing Inc.

The book will profile over 12 jobs, including building planner, construction site supervisor, scaffolding worker, land surveyor, crane operator, lighting designer and local store owner.

Noritake Suzuki, 36, the author and illustrator, will portray the workers based on his interviews and photos at some 30 workplaces over the past two years.

"He has recorded the details about how they work by taking 100 to 200 pictures at each place," said the book's editor, Atsuko Okimoto.

Those were taken from a building called, here it comes...

"I-Link Ichikawa The Towers West Premium Residence" (I-linkタウンいちかわ ザ タワーズ ウエスト プレミアレジデンス)

You can find this 160m high tower right next to Ichikawa station on the Sobu Main Line in Ichikawa, Chiba Prefecture. It got a free observatory on the top floor, the entrance is on the 3rd floor.

These new residential tower in Japan all have these kind of names, it's probably because they think it sounds more "exclusive".

in other news.

They finally are going further with the crane removal, yesterday a new smaller crane was lifted up that will remove the current crane.

If I remember correctly the one that has gone up yesterday will be the last proper tower crane that will eventually be removed by the small crane that can be taken down with the elevators.

I will try to take some pictures today.

Still gives me the impression of being small, but in person this structure must be a monster.

I like it, but i don't like the top of the spire, which gets thicker in the end instead of becoming thinner. I'd like to turn the spire upside down!

Small might not be right term, but even when you stand right under it it doesn't give you the impression that's it's as tall as it is. A 400m tower would have given you the same impression, simply because almost every around it is actually small. You don't have any other tall buildings as a reference. It's simply tall, but not specifically super tall.

The only really thing that makes you feel that it's very tall is all the places in Tokyo where you suddenly see the Sky Tree just popping up between the buildings. You don't have that as widespread with the Tokyo Tower.
