Apparently a building isn't counted as a free-standing structure.

The Burj is mentioned in the article, it's not like they pretend it's the tallest in all categories.

Hi all.

Let me begin by saying this is one of my favorite projects I watch and collect pics / info of.

Either someone in the press is misquoting Guiness or Guiness needs to get their terminology straight. I am thinking it is the former - a well known error made by journalists. The CTBUH does mention 'freestanding tower' on their site - perhaps that was the term the journalist meant to use.

The CTBUH has a strict guideline as to what is a building and what is a tower. I won't go into it here - anyone interested can check their site for the info.

The broader term 'freestanding structure' includes both buildings and towers (and anything else such as masts and derricks, but these aren't normally considered with towers and buildings) because they have no guy wires or other supports. As such the TST will be the worlds tallest tower but not the worlds tallest freestanding structure - the BK has that record by a long shot.
(It should be noted this refers to structures on land. I have heard claims of taller structures under water that are not guyed but the water is supporting it somewhat, so these don't compare - I haven't bothered to research these claims)
The TST is currently the second tallest freestanding structure on Earth.

Beyond that is the Worlds Tallest Structure that includes freestanding and guyed masts. Again the BK has that record by 194 meters. The TST is the only other structure to overtake any existing guyed mast and is therefore the second tallest structure on Earth - no small feat.

Lastly is the WTS in history since the tallest guyed mast ever has collapsed, and the BK has that record too. The TST is the third tallest structure in history right now.

There is one project U/C that will push the TST down a notch and three other proposals that will be taller as well.

Ray.

Don't pay attention to the article just the title. I don't know if that's Guiness or the author of the article's fault. Either way it will be the tallest tower in the world..and will be for awhile AFAIK.

Here are some more pictures

I must say, i like the TV Tower, but dislike the complex it sits on. The base and the adjacent tower looks mundane and medicore.

Tree planting

Look on the very right

It's autumn now so many of the trees have no leaves right now of course

They should be adding more in the coming days.

The complex is under construction and will be for a couple more months, I donīt know how you can judge it by those photos.
And the office tower is quite good looking, I donīt see any "mediocrity " in it.

Yes, and you? When I say "I donīt see any mediocrity in it", itīs also an opinion. You think differently? Thatīs ok.

About the complex, itīs common sense to wait until itīs finished to express such a definitive opinion. Not even the facades are finished. Scaffolding, safety nets everywhere, banners, machinery...
The channel embellishment and many other ground details are also far from finished. Itīs the ground level what make or break a complex like this.
