Well at least it is an improvement over what was there before (no greenery there at all). I don't know if this will change your opinion or not..but here is some of the renders for the complex. It is called "Tokyo Solamachi".

Great update. I absolutely love this tower, it have a really nice balance and figure, even though I think that it would be even cooler if they hadn't surrounded the bottom with buildings...

^Cool photos from the helicopter!

If you were interested in the latest issue of the Japan Architect magazine there is an article on Sky Tree. The main theme of this issue is Emergent spatial frames.

Thank you for the renders Nihon, and yeah i can obviously see them. I agree that it is a big improvement, but i just dont like the design from the base. It has this 80's appeal, which i mostly dislike.

Sweet f*ck, Tokyo is huge!
The tower is quite fitting for the greatest metropolis in the world.

That time lapse was really cool. I can't wait for time lapses like that for other projects

I'm trying really hard to like it in some way, but this spire is just way too ridiculous looking...

The Tokyo Tower will remain the icon of the city, since it's far more appealing in proportion and color. Despite being a testimony of timelessness, just like Tour Eiffel, the example it followed.

Sky Tree can be seen from basically everywhere in the entire city..and its night time LED color display will change how Tokyo looks at night forever.. In the minds of most japanese Sky Tree already is the new icon of Tokyo even though it's not even completed yet.
