In this weekend of remembrance for the Great Tokyo Air Raid of 1944 and especially of course for the Great Tohuku Earthquake and Tsunami the Tokyo Sky Tree was lighted up in a special way for once more before the opening.

The 512 colors blog from where I have posted many pictures before made several blog posts with beautiful pictures.

It's a great start. The Sky Tree finished and lit up in time for the Mar 10 air raid and the Mar 11th earthquake. The BBC did interview Japanese citizens and they feel great about surviving past disasters and stepping into the future with a record-breaking landmark tower.

On a personal note,I was in Tokyo in 1998 when an article showed up in the Pacific Stars and Stripes about plans to replace the Tokyo Tower (finished in 1957) which had become outdated due to the rapid growth of Tokyo.

Quite amazing. Even though the tower stands out, it still fits in

Dear sweet jesus, that aerial pic... Toyko really is the largest city in the world isn't it? I feel like you could just drop Shanghai or NYC in there and lose them.. unbelievable.

Tokyo IS the largest city in the world, but the fact that most of the buildings are quite tiny make the city looks even much bigger and boundless

That aerial pic shows probably less than 20 percent of the Tokyo metropolitan area............at least that's what I could decipher from a quick comparison with google maps
