..wow i just love this tower... I think this will really reinvent Tokyo and boost its image even more.. With China booming from what I've been hearing Japan is losing its edge, and I think this will really bring some magic back to Tokyo.. This tower really makes it look like the Paris of the East, well so does Shanghai.. anyways love this tower and I have a question... Will this replace the existing Tokyo Tower?....

Tokyo is under a new constructions boom...I think Tokyo is not losing its edge. The answer is no: it will not replace the Tokyo tower.

I love this project but the only problem is that the new tokyo tower will be constructed little bit far from the city center...around 10 minutes from tokyo station

What's with Tokyo and towers with anorexic base structures??

Both the Tokyo tower and this 610m tower have a very thin base, Is it designed that way as a precautionary measure against earthquakes??

I don't really like it, Tokyo deserves better.

I like it. It looks nice, and I think it's good for Tokyo to have a landmark skyscraper too.

I certainly hope design will be changed! Cause what I see is very derivative and unimaginative! I can see why this thing may be desired to stimulate local economy but this is its only merit. At least of this design.
Has the project got definite go ahead? Or is this just a idea? Because if it is something approved how come design has been changed, and completion date varies from 2009 to 2011. Emporis just says that construction is expected to finish 2011, but doesn't mention when it is expected to start though...
On one page I’ve found that it will probably be started at 2008 "aiming” to finish in 2011. One thing that looks a bit suspicious - cost at 50bln yen. For a 610 m tower designed and built to withstand earthquakes of the magnitude one expects in Japan it sounds way too little. If you look at cost of similar structures they all run into billions of dollars not yens. And built in Japan with its cost structure... In the end it’ll probably be something like 4 times as much!

Most fascinating will be to see technology employed for earthquake proofing!
I certainly hope for Discovery Channel special!!
