keep in mind though folks, this thing is a tower, not a skyscraper, so it takes a lot less time to build

Those are some of the largest cranes i've seen.

Is the base supposed to be square or triangle? There's 2 shapes in the site.

The base of the tower is triangular, the construction around the triangle is for the podium around the tower.

This is how it will look like in the near future, making it a bit more clear.

The green structure is temporary support for the exoskeleton before the steel from the different corners are connected so it can support itself.

The station that you see on the helicopter view is Narihirabashi station on the Tobu Isesaki line.

On the builders website for this project there are pretty detailed description on the how the tower will be build. It's all in Japanese but the pictures are clear enough to understand how it's done if you don't speak the language.
http://www.skytree-obayashi.com/artifice/index.html

Right now they are working on the podium and base of the tower.
http://www.skytree-obayashi.com/arti...2/const01.html

The materials will be driven into the base were one of the mobile cranes on the platform will pick them up and lift them onto the platform were the tower cranes will be able to pick it up again. At the same time they are working on the basement of the tower and the podium using a top down building method.

Construction so far in 10 steos, now they are at step 9.

details on the cranes:
http://www.skytree-obayashi.com/arti...l03/index.html

The JCC-V720AH tower cranes can carry a load up to 32 tonnes, and the maximum lift is 420 meter.

This is not enough for this 610 meter high tower, that's why the 1st viewing platform will be used as a platform. 2 of the current cranes won't climb higher then 375 meter, the 3rd crane together with a new 4th crane will go up from to build the rest of the tower up to the point from were the last part is jacked up through the core.

Momo1435,
Very nice pictures and construction description!!! Thanks for useful links!

I found at one of your link the comparison of JCC-720AH with JCC-900. I see that length of 720AH top platform is shorter than JCC-900 one. Also I found the JCC-V900 crane that has actually more shorter platform than JCC-900 one (see http://rogiken.org/heavy/ccs/iuk/v900/v900-01.html ).

Info on most Japanese luffers can be found at http://www.rogiken.org/heavy/ccs/iuk/main.html

I like Japanese tower cranes. These cranes can be really concurents for Favelle Favco tower cranes in supertalls buildings construction. Therefore I don't understand very weak activity of Japanese tower cranes sellers beyond Japan.

Momo1435, do you have specification on 160t IHI/Misubishi tower cranes?
(see http://www.cranestodaymagazine.com/s...rycode=2038191 )

It's really biggest luffer in the World!!!
