Since it's a TV tower, then you can't build it within a load of skyscrapers, since they won't get a good reception. I think that it will look awesome when it's done.

Tokyo dosent have any other supertall structures, so this tv tower would do quite fine in downtown. The nice thing is, having it farther away leaves room for comercial supertalls in the future in the core.!

Tokyo already has a very widespread skyline, so for how it looks in the skyline it doesn't really matter where it's placed. The best view of the skyline are from the inside, with all the high rise buildings around you or from far away with the sea of towers. For both ways the tower will just fit right in the skyline on the current location.

Location of this tower couldn't be better. View of central Tokyo will be absolutely stunning!

Face the reality. Hollywood always make cars pass under eiffel (in a quite acrobatic manner with loud bangs and flash of light) and many in the world believe this.

You can't really build supertall office buildings in tokyo. earthquakes are too much of a risk

I think you can drive under one of Tokyo Tower's legs, but only to get to the parking area, not actually a street, right ?

That is correct. I've been the Tokyo Tower every time I got to Japan and I've been to Japan many times.

With the right amount of engineering, I'm sure that one could. Its just going to be prohibitively expensive, and unnecessary with the glut of highrises in Tokyo.

Uh, Tokyo real estate is obscenely expensive. I'm sure they would be building 300m+ skyscrapers if they could.

Thats where Yokohama steps in. They currently have the tallest building in Japan.

Nah, it's because Japan really likes cute things and tall building just aren't cute....

And now some more important stuff.

The Yomiuri newspaper had an article about the tower again (the construction gets lots of press coverage), it said that the 3 legs will grow to 200 meters this winter. In other words, it goes fast.

You've got a point, Momo. In kawai land, huge erections are not kakkoi !
But seriously, having seen what can be built in Taipei, I don't think that Tokyo can't do the same...

The actual reasons for not building supertalls in Tokyo can be found on several pages in this thread, the last time the question was asked wasn't even too long ago.
