the scaffolding is very mysterious. It seems as if they were building a giant transformer to invade the Earth.

You think that because it's in Japan.

If it's in Iran you'll say they're building a missle.
If it's in North Korea you'll say they're building a giant statue of Kim Jung Il.

The raising of the cranes has been postponed (and not just one day, since they would've started on Thursday and not on Wednesday like I posted), as announced on all the message boards around the site.

tokyo2ndtower.cocolog-nifty.com/blog/

The growth of the tower hasn't stopped, the North corner grew a bit today. So the postponement of raising the cranes should not be a actual delay but just a planning change, it's not like it's needed right away anyway.

Between the street and the canal on the South side of the building site there is a concrete wall. At one point there was a little step where you could stand on to have a somewhat better view, but they put a fence in front of it to prevent that.

But is seems that it has created even a better opportunity to take pictures over the wall.

Nah Japan is ok, since WWII. About those other countries I will keep my opinion for myself. Sorry for going off topic

No, in December 2011 it will be finished, and the grand opening will be in the Spring of 2012.

edit:

The info on the 1st page was out of date.

Come on. Why do you think?

Of course because this is an broadcasting tower with only a few floors for an observation deck. The freedom tower is a full building with 108(!) floors! Every floor needs electricity, safaty measures, water, elevators, air filters etc etc. And the foundation for a building like the freedom tower is way more complicated than the Tokyo Sky Tree. Also the first 400 meters or so is just assembling tubes to each other. (of course it's more complicated than that but you get the point)

If they want to complete this in one year, they have to hurry because this month they started exactly 1 year ago.

As for the current construction, nothing much to see the last couple of days.

First of all it would be Japanese.

Second of all, I wonder what the first number stands for, too.

Heisei 21st, July, 9th

In japanese you can write the date on a traditional way using the name of the era and its year, in this case Year 21st of the Heisei Era, or write it on a "western" way 2009/7/9.

That's all ^_^

A clean setting for Tokyo Sky Tree mural

A painting of the new Tokyo broadcasting tower, which is under construction in Tokyo's Sumida Ward, graces the wall of the men's bath at the Arai-Yu public bathhouse in the ward's Honjo district. The Tokyo Sky Tree, destined to become Japan's tallest free-standing structure, was depicted by painter Morio Nakajima at the request of bathhouse operator Yoshikatsu Honda, 65. Honda got the idea after viewing an artist's conception of the 610-meter Tokyo Sky Tree broadcasting tower, due to be erected by late 2011. The bathhouse painting, completed in May, replaced one of Mount Fuji. Bathhouse murals are usually replaced about every two years because of damage from humidity. That likely means the tower painting will be due for replacement before construction of the real tower is completed. "It may have been a bit too early to paint the new tower," Honda said.(IHT/Asahi: July 11,2009)

Yes, I got some pointless complaints that I was writing the date in an American style, like 7/11. So I decided to go Japanese to make it even more confusing.

Anyway, the construction, they lowered 1 of the cranes a bit. I don't know why, but maybe it has something to do that they're going to grow again from Monday.

What is the reason for using a lattice structure rather than concrete as are most tv/observation towers? is it cheaper?
