Head and shoulders above the rest- By design or height? It isn't the tallest building to be built in China. Pingan IFC is 39ft. taller than the Shanghai Tower. I agree that the Shanghai Tower has a better design but just by height Pingan IFC is taller.

The beams are orange because that's how they roll.

Not very relevant, but is there anything special about the little building at the right side of the pic? I mean, why the heck it needs two Heli ports
Don't know if it has been answered, but the building with two helipads is the police headquarters (large building, but a much larger percentage of police officers in China never walk the beat, they push paperwork). FYI, foreigners get their visas at a building in front of that. The white 15 story tall building on the left side is the Shenzhen branch of the People's Bank of China.

Being that any non PRC citizen has to register where they are staying with the government (unless it is at a hotel) I can see why so many of the Police are paper pushers. Shenzhen does have a higher crime rate than most cities in China tho.

I love the design. I really can't wait to see this one finished. Maybe not the best one going up in China right now, but it's up there.

The orange beams are so massive, makes you understand how after a certain height, tall building become less efficient.

Wow! I am surprised that you can get that close to the building while it is under construction.
